Exclamation Katherine Heigl Addresses her "Grey's Anatomy" Exit

Does Katherine Heigl Regret Leaving "Grey's Anatomy"?
July 13, 2014
by Natalie Abrams

After leaving "Grey's Anatomy" amidst controversy in 2010, Katherine Heigl is returning to network television this fall playing a CIA analyst who advises the president in NBC's political drama "State of Affairs".

In the years since checking out of Seattle Grace for good, Heigl has had some big-screen hits (Knocked Up, 27 Dresses) and more than a few misses (The Ugly Truth, Killers, Life As We Know It, One for the Money).

So why is she returning to TV now? More to the point, does she regret leaving "Grey's Anatomy"?

"I made a difficult decision, but it was the right decision for me at the time," Heigl told TVGuide.com at the network's fall TV previews on Sunday. "I really just wanted to spend more time with my family and my new baby and extend my family and I'm really grateful to have been able to do that and I'm very grateful for these last couple of years."

What about those pesky rumors that Heigl's film career fizzled because she and her "momager" Nancy are difficult to work with? The stories have persisted since she pulled her name from Emmy consideration in 2008, blaming the "Grey's" writers for inferior material.

"I can only say that I certainly don't see myself as being difficult," she said. "I would never intend to be difficult. I don't think my mother [who is also an executive producer on State of Affairs] sees herself as being difficult. It's important for everybody to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully and kindly. So if I have ever disappointed somebody, it was never intentional."

Heigl also addressed her return to network television.

"People want to know why this show, why come back to television? Because it's an extraordinary role, it's an extraordinary opportunity and it's an extraordinary story and it's an opportunity for me to flex some different muscles and show a different side of myself as an actor, performer and storyteller that I hope audiences will be excited about and love."

Katherine Heigl: "I Quit 'Grey's' Because My Priorities Were Messed Up"
Aug 7, 2014
by Liz Raftery

Katherine Heigl says one of her main motivations to leave "Grey's Anatomy" was so she could spend more time with her family.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Heigl says that between shooting movies and "Grey's Anatomy", her schedule didn't leave her enough time with her daughter Naleigh, whom she and husband Josh Kelley adopted from South Korea in 2009.

"I would come home angry and frustrated that I'd missed everything with my kid that day," Heigl tells GH. "I didn't get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I'd have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up."

Even before she and Kelley adopted Naleigh, however, Heigl had asked for a lighter work load on "Grey's" as she tried to balance the show with her burgeoning film career. After taking a couple leaves of absences, she left the series in 2010 after creator Shonda Rhimes agreed to release her from her contract.

"I felt like my priorities were messed up," she says of that period. "I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised that family comes first."

In 2012, Heigl and Kelley adopted a second daughter, Adelaide, in Louisiana.

With her daughters now ages 5 and 2, Heigl is set to return to TV for the upcoming NBC drama "State of Affairs".

Default Shonda Rhimes has a "no buttholes" policy: "There are no Heigls in this situation”

http://www.eonline.com/news/586714/s...policy-on-set?

In her Hollywood Reporter profile, Rhimes says she’s learned to avoid people like Katherine Heigl on set.” I don't put up with bullsh*t or nasty people. I don't have time for it,” she says.
