I mean why was the crowd going so wild when he wore them? I don't understand the humor at all. I guess it's a 1974 thing and we had to be there

Those tight pajamas made him look much skinner than people realized. It was shocking and funny at the same time.

i think it was partly the shock value - he just looked so goofy, and I don't think anyone had ever shown someone on TV in such a goofy getup before; as just a natural part of the character anyways.

That's why I said it's probably a 1974 type of comedy because all those people probably were seeing someone like him for the 1st time look so odd
