Default Janet wearing stockings to the beach

In the episode where Jack is holding a Sunday brunch at his bistro to get a wine license early in the episode we see both Janet and Teri going to the beach and Janet is wearing stockings, it's noticeable because her legs are darker than the rest of her body.

Who the hell does that?! I know Joyce DeWitt was doing commercials for women's leggings but why do that for the beach?

Apparently the "panty hose" debate was a big deal between producers and DeWitt. She wanted to wear them to cover up any imperfections and it drove the producers crazy--she fought hard to wear them despite objections. Dave Powers says in the Come and Knock on Our Door book that "these kind of woman things triggered other things. They didn't respect her as much after that." So she really, really wanted to wear them. Plus the Leggs promotion. Maybe after she won the argument she felt she HAD to wear them at all times....who knows.

She wore them with pajamas, too, like in Best Laid Plans.

Ohh very interesting though I question why Joyce felt her bare legs weren't adequate but yet she would agree to the Leggs commercials.

Priscilla Barnes too would wear leggings too in the beginning and I hated that.

It was very obvious that Janet was wearing stockings with her pajamas which was ridiculous. The stockings were very noticeable because they were SHINY and DARKER than the rest of her skin. If she was just worried about imperfections on her legs, she should have worn skin tone stockings that are NOT shiny.

Since Burt Ward had to wear hose as Robin on Batman, after that it's kind of hard to argue against women wearing them...!

Showing hairy legs on TV was probably vile and repulsive for commercial sponsors, hell even in the Batman comics drawn by Neal Adams the editors would have a fit over Batman's hairy chest brushing up against women when embraced in a kiss.

What does anyone think about this: A girl wearing a swimsuit (one-piece or two-piece) and stockings/pantyhose to the beach? Can anyone even imagine this?

When I first started watching TC I thought, "Wow, the girls have beautiful legs. I wonder what lotion they used to make them so shiny?" Then I realized it was just hosiery....

I can't exactly quote it but there was something mentions about Joyce not wanting to run around in bare legs with super short shorts because of all the men working on the show. Let's face it they weren't exactly "gentlemen" back then.
Also, why are people going "OMG it's so unrealistic she wore pantyhose to bed!!!"
like you know what's unrealistic? Their faceful of makeup these girls have on when going to bed. Santa Monica apartments near the beach being that affordable. There's a lot on this show that makes no sense. Move on from the pantyhose

Come to think of it, were there any occasions where Janet didn't wear stockings or pantyhose when she had her legs exposed on the show? I could have sworn there were at least a couple, but maybe I'm wrong.
