Who in this forum prefers TV show's theme songs or music with lyrics or completely instrumental? I thought about starting this thread because if a TV show had a theme song/music with lyrics, wouldn't it (the theme music/song) probably get annoying or boring?

To answer your questions I'd say no it wouldn't. A lot of the sitcoms from the 70's had lyrics and they never got annoying or boring. My favorites with lyrics include Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley Making our dreams come true, Welcome Back Kotter's Welcome Back song or theme, Bosom Buddies My life, All In The Family's Those Were The Days, The Jeffersons Movin on Up, Good Times-Good Times, The Brady Bunch Here's a Story, there are many, many more...
Some Favorite Themes without Lyrics are: That Girl, Bewitched, The Munsters, The Flying Nun, Mork & Mindy, etc. I like both equally and growing up I was of the opinion that the secret to a hit show was the theme song. |

I like both. More probably have words than don't. I have way too many to name with words. Some of my favorites without words would be Sanford and Son, The Ropers (even though it was short lived), Too Close for Comfort, The Cosby Show, Everybody Hates Chris. Most of the others I like have words. Some themes (especially ones from the 50s and 60s) had words but were never sang on the shows and only used instrumental versions, like I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Hazel, Mama's Family.

I'm not a big fan of TV themes with lyrics but I do like these:
Gimme a Break (both versions) Punky Brewster The Golden Girls (their lyrics came from Andrew Gold's 70's hit of the same name) Angie The Facts of Life CSI (using Who songs) The Love Boat (cheesy but it's still memorable) The Edge of Night's theme from 1979-1983 and Search For Tomorrow's theme from the 1974-1981 (both sung by the same man) The Jeffersons Bosom Buddies One Day at a Time |

Back in the day when we didn't have recording devices, I rather liked the opening or closing credits with music. Now people want to zip through the dull times or credits and sad to say So do I.
