Question Vera's suicide attempt episode

Could someone give me some details about the Vera "suicide" episode? How was the attempt presented specifically? Was it actually shown? What was the tone regarding the events of this episode--joking still? a "serious" episode tone?, etc. Specific details welcome. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, Vera was shown in the diner taking sleeping pills. Alice and Flo stayed with her at the diner and helped her survive. I believe the overall tone of the episode was pretty serious. There should be someone here that remembers the episode a little better than I do.

It was a mix of comedy and being serious.

Unlike most TV characters that start out mild and become an exagerated farce of themselves like Rose from Golden Girls and Chrissy from 3's Company, Vera did the opposite, she ot smarter.

In the early episodes Vera was a complete loon, she thought TV shows were REAL and if I'm not mistaken Vera as gonna kill herself b/c a TV character was killed of.

I don't see how someone with that mentality coud function in the real world, much less hold a job down.

She was gonna kill herself because of a falling out with her boyfriend.

This was "Good Night, Sweet Vera", and it was episode # 9 from the first season . I don't know if I remember this episode any better than you do, but I do remember that Vera went into the ladies' room and took her sleeping pills . I think Alice was surprised to find out that Vera took a bunch of sleeping pills, but I wouldn't bet forty dollars on it . I remember Alice walking Vera around and talking to keep her awake .

It was a nickname or pet name, and it probably became a habit . Jolene ( Celia Weston ) probably thought shoe buttons were cute, and she probably thought Vera's personality were cute as well . The nickname "Shoe Button" demonstrated the affection Jolene ( Celia Weston ) felt for Vera .

Alice and Flo both did that, supporting Vera on their shoulders.
