Confused Henry Jefferson

I really liked the character and was sad to see him go, at least they gave him a good send off. IMDB lists his appearance from 1971-1973 I've always wondered why they wrote him out of the show. Tabitha didn't air until 1977, unless he was only there to fill in until they hired Sherman Hemsley for the part of George. I would have liked to see Henry appear in some of the Jeffersons.

Ya Know.. . That's an Excellent point. Henry Jefferson should have appeared in at LEAST 1 episode of The Jeffersons during it's entire 10-year run.

He was written out the show because Norman Lear had already discovered the guy to play the husband but couldn't appear right away because he was on Broadway. He actually appeared on Good Times the year after he left

Yeah surprised no one thought about having him on the Jeffersons

That is strange that Henry Jefferson never made it into the spin off at all, but as we've discussed on the Good Times threads, spin offs can tend to wander out on their own paths and tend not to look back at the original source so much, if at all.

He was mentioned once on the Jeffersons though when Gary Coleman guest starred as his son.

I think because Henry was only seen once with George is probably why he never appeared on the Jeffersons

Also Mel Stewart was starring on a new comedy called Roll Out in the fall of 1973 but it didn't last long.

My understanding is that Mel Stewart was only there on a temporary basis. Sherman had a commitment on Broadway. When the commitment was over he would be joining the cast. I liked the Henry Jefferson character better than George. It is too bad after The Jeffersons spun off in mid season 5 1974-75 is is too bad that Mel Stewart was not brought back.

Henry was mentioned once on the Jeffersons when George's nephew Raymond came over for a visit. Raymond was played by Gary Coleman.

I do recall that episode. I believe Gary Coleman name was Raymond and it was shortly before the beginning of Different Strokes I do not remember Henry in All in the Family having a son who lived with them. Maybe he was with the mother who also did not live with him. The first season of All In The Family when The Jeffersons moved in Lionel mentioned that his aunt lived with them she seemed to disappear.

I don't think Mel Stewart was starring on anything after 1975 so I'm shocked he wasn't available

Mel Stewart did a TON of work after 1975. "Starring" is open for debate.

Guess that's why he wasn't available lol

I think it was stupid to make reference to him and not have him appear

Especially sometime during the 11 year run, with all those episodes you would think at least once it would have happened.
