Exclusive: "Arrow" Taps Peter Stormare as New Count Vertigo

The Count lives — sort of!

Peter Stormare has been tapped to play Werner Zytle in the Season 3 premiere of "Arrow", TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

In DC Comics' New 52s, Werner Zytle is the alias of Count Vertigo, one of Green Arrow's foes.

On "Arrow", Werner is introduced as the new purveyor of the drug Vertigo, filling the role left vacant since the death of The Count (Seth Gabel) last season. Zytle, who will be the first villain that the team faces in Season 3, will go by the moniker Vertigo.

Stormare's TV credits include "Prison Break", "Weeds", "NCIS: LA" and, recently, "The Blacklist" as the infamous villain Berlin.

"Arrow" returns for its third season on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c on The CW.

Peter Stormare Returning as Vertigo

Peter Stormare will reprise his role as Vertigo in an upcoming episode of "Arrow", EW has learned.

He first made his debut in the season 3 premiere as Werner Zytle, a crime boss who took up the mantle of Vertigo after the death of Count Vertigo (Seth Gabel). The last we saw of Zytle, Oliver (Stephen Amell) had fought off the effects of the new Vertigo drug, which caused fear in its victims, and left Werner tied up for the police.

Stormare will pop up again in episode 13, though details on his return are being kept under wraps.

“It’s a thrill to have Peter Stormare return as Vertigo,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim says.

“When people see this episode, I think they’ll find that it’s a culmination of a lot of elements that we’ve put into place in the first 12 episodes of Season 3. For that reason, it felt appropriate to us to have Peter return since he was the villain of the episode that kicked off all of this madness. It’s also just a joy to work with him.”
