Default Wonder what made All in the Family copy off "Maude and the Jeffersons" in season 7?

I mean wasn't the show still number 1 in the country after the 1975-76 season? It looked strange for the Bunkers to hire a maid all of a sudden when Edith was home and it was just her and Archie. You would think the ratings had dropped or something

BTW: Teresa the maid was HOT and loved when she call Archie "Mr Bunkers"

They needed new characters to replace the Meathead and Gloria. Of course, the new characters could never fully replace them, but with Carroll and/or Jean still aboard AITF had some momentum.

Hiring a maid wasn't so far fetched; it's a formula that's worked well in other shows. Archie was in better shape financially, and he & Edith were getting older. But Edith's passing was a JTS moment IMO. Even though the show still remained entertaining it lost it's luster and was no longer the iconic groundbreaking we feel so in love with.

They probably realized the idea of a maid wasn't a good one which is why the teresa character was short-lived. Lol

Teresa wasn't hired as the maid. She was a nursing student who rented the spare bedroom. They needed the money because Archie got laid off and they found her at the hospital where he had his surgery. And she called him "Mr. Bonkers," which is even funnier.

That's what I thought, LOL. I didn't remember them hiring a maid.

Didn't they have one in the later seasons?
