Default Looks like the "Checking In" spinoff was too similar to the Jeffersons and that's why

it failed

On the Jeffersons Florence was working in a high rise building insulting a boss she worked for who wore a suit

On Checking In Florence was working in another high rise building insulting another boss who also wore a suit

So viewers were like............"haven't we already seen this? Why not have Florence be the boss and someone insulting her? Just seemed to similar to the Jeffersons

Spinoffs are not supposed to be similar to the parent show and based in the neighborhood

Aha, that would explain the abject failure and quick cancellation of Green Acres.

Exactly, the Jeffersons was a hit because it was nothing like All in the Family, same thing with Maude

You're right. But I think they wanted Florence to stay hot, and wanted to captalize off her character and they didn't want her to miss a beat. But in reality, it wasn't the same because George Jefferson isn't someone you replace for insults and comebacks. In short, this Lyle guy wasn't no George Jefferson.

And why did George tell her she could still live there once she started the job as an executive? LOL

Damm was Florence ever going to be independent?

This was not the reason Green Acres was canceled, it was the victim of the rural purge going on at CBS at the time. Green Acres ran for six seasons before it ended. Checking In lasted a month? Checking In was also not funny, Marla needed a better supporting cast.

For "Checking In" to have been canceled only after 4 episodes, it must have been pretty bad. I vaguely remember it, but I can't imagine Florence anywhere but on "the Jeffersons" and it seems the rest of the audience agreed.

That reeks of sarcasm.

I agree Jeffersons had run its course and was starting to get old its still one of my favorite shows and I would have watched every episode of Checking In no matter how bad it was.

I had heard that Michael J Fox had unsuccessfully auditioned for Checking In I wonder what that would have been like. Florence coulda have recycled all her short jokes.
