Emmy-nominated actor Meshach Taylor, best known for his role in the hit sitcom "Designing Women," died Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Times and CNN. He was 67. Taylor was in hospice care at his family's home in Altadena, reported the Los Angeles Times. He was surrounded by his wife, children and mother when he died at 10:47 p.m., his son Tariq Taylor and agent Dede Binder said. Meshach Taylor was best known for his role as Anthony Bouvier, the assistant to the four main female characters on "Designing Women." He also played flamboyant window dresser Hollywood Montrose in the 1987 movie "Mannequin." Taylor had fought a terminal illness and faded markedly in recent days, CNN reported. "It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition," the family said in a post on Facebook on June 27 |

(CNN) -- Another familiar Hollywood face bid farewell late Saturday -- actor Meshach Taylor. He died at age 67 at his Los Angeles area home, his agent Dede Binder said. Many may remember him from "Designing Women," where he played assistant Anthony Bouvier. Taylor had fought a terminal illness and faded markedly in recent days. His wife, children, grandchildren and mother surrounded him as he passed away, Binder said. "It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition," the family said in a statement. Taylor made his screen debut in the 1978 movie "Damien: Omen II." He has appeared regularly in television dramas since, including the series "In the Heat of the Night," "Hannah Montana," and "All of Us," according to his profile on the International Movie Database. Most recently, he appeared in two episodes of Criminal Minds. The last one ran in January this year. During the run of "Designing Women," Taylor's co-star Dixie Carter described him as "a good man who is confident and strong. He's absolutely grounded," according to a profile in People. "The eldest of three children of two former college professors, Taylor, a precocious child, first learned acting technique as a survival skill. 'The kids called me the Professor, and I got beat up a lot,' he says. 'So I dummied up until I got into the 11th grade,'" the profile read. "Even when he didn't have any money, he always had style. He was on the cutting edge of men's colognes, and he was always buying yachting magazines and GQ," actor Joe Mantegna told the magazine. |

He was such an awesome guy. I'll continue to remember him by watching Designing Women and Dave's World. He left too soon.
Alice Ghostley was probably singing "Black Man, Black Man" when they met again! |

I do hope we hear from some of the surviving cast. I always thought MT and Delta Burke had a great on-screen relationship.

R.I.P. Meshach. I wasn't a big Designing Women fan but he was definitely one of the best parts of the show. He was great on Dave's World too. A great comedic actor.

He was such an asset to the show, as the show's lone male voice! I loved his scenes with Suzanne (Delta Burke), the way he always mentioned his "unfortunate incarceration" and of course those hilarious scenes of Bernice (the late Alice Ghostly) singing "Black Man, Black Man" to him!
