NHL Schedule 2014-15

Yes, you read that right. The NHL 2014-15 schedule has been announced and I couldn't be happier! A week after the Los Angeles Kings won the 2014 Stanley Cup, the NHL officially released the schedule for the new season which will be the first for Rogers Broadcasting in Canada as part of a 12 year deal which will see the national broadcasts expand to include more games, more teams, and more channel options. The result should be a better overall experience for all hockey fans in Canada.

For example, on Sat. Oct. 25, all 3 of Canada's Eastern teams will be playing at home at 7 pm: Boston at Toronto, NYRangers at Montreal, and New Jersey at Ottawa. Now in past years, Hockey Night In Canada would have featured one of these games as part of their national broadcast, with the other 2 only being available in a limited viewing area. This season, all 3 of these games can be seen all across Canada on 3 different channels, plus, as an added bonus, you also get a couple of great all-US matchups: Detroit at Philadelphia and Chicago at St. Louis at 8:00 pm. Under this new setup Canadian fans will get to see more of the low-profile US teams like Nashville, Minnesota, Phoenix, and Columbus (11 games in all for the Jackets, including 6 on Saturdays!). The national games will be seen on Wednesdays on Sportsnet, Saturdays on CBC, and now also on Sundays on CITY, hosted by Ron MacLean from a different small town Canadian location each week in a feature called "Hometown Hockey".

The complete schedule will feature 1230 games in all, with around 320, or roughly one-quarter, to be shown as part of the Rogers package. So even though summer is just beginning, the fall and winter is just around the corner and I can honestly say it's never been a better time to be a Canadian hockey fan!
