Default The difference in tones for the show

Definitely Rhoda is like a completely different show between season 2 and 4. I can see why some would prefer the earlier seasons of Rhoda even though 4 is my favorite because the show's tone was a lot lighter and happier in the first two seasons. Plus compare Ida with Season 2 episodes like the one where she thinks she is having an affair with the doctor and where she meets Joe's ex-wife. It's like in the earlier seasons Ida Morgenstern seemed to have a lot more quick one-liners written for her than in Season 4. It makes sense because most of the writing staff was different by that time. The tone of seasons 1 and 2 was happy and light as a feather, the tone Season of 3 was heartbreak, and the tone of Season 4 was Rhoda recovering slowly from heartbreak but still not quite the person she was before the divorce. Season 5 was just a mess and I don't get any tone out of it other than everybody was giving up on the show. Too bad because the natural continuation for Season 5 would have been Rhoda would slowly get her groove back, but that's not how the writers wrote her.

The opening theme from season 5 made you feel that it was a recovery season

The opening Season 5 theme made me feel it was a Disco season.

I think it would have made the show better if she found another steady to go with. I know the writers thought Rhoda's single troubles were what made her who she was, but at some point normal people get into steady relationships. I sure hope they weren't going to keep her a single unlucky in love loser forever. I thought instead of adding drama into Ida and Martin's relationship they should have found a new relationship for Rhoda. But then when it moved to Saturday nights in Season 5 it was probably going to be a dead duck no matter what. Too bad. They could have done more to keep the show going.

Funny that season 5 opening credits were the best

I liked the Season 5 theme. I liked all the themes but Season 3. Season 3 had no character. Season 4 was kind of dark with that synthesized intro and the heavy percussion.

I believe season 5 had the shot of the skyline in the very beginning

Yeah, the same synth intro was used for Season 5 I think. It's been so long since I've seen the Season 5 episodes I forgot. They really need to come out on DVD, even though they suck.

I saw most of them on ME-TV when they ran them a few months back. Still want the DVD though. I want to complete the collection. Too bad they couldn't actually find all the complete episodes of Season 1 and in good quality prints. The Christmas episode is particularly frustrating to watch on the DVD. What a shoddy copy. They ought to re-release Season 1 after Season 5 comes out when they find better quality tapes, but of course, that's another thing that isn't going to happen.

Oh Me-TV did show season 5? Maybe I got Rhoda confused with Bob Newhart. I know Me-TV didn't show the last season of Bob Newhart

Yes, Me-TV did show Season 5 of Rhoda. I believe they did show some episodes of Season 6 of Bob Newhart.

Yes and Bob Newhart too I believe. They dropped Rhoda, Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore and Taxi for the "Summer of Me", I believe, which is too bad. Because TV doesn't really get better than those four sitcoms from the 70s anyway if you ask me, so whatever they replaced them wasn't as good.
