"True Blood" Composer Nathan Barr Wants to do "True Blood" Broadway Musical
"True Blood: The Musical" -- Will the HBO Drama Sink Its Fangs Into Broadway?
by Andy Swift June 18, 2014 The fanged fatales of Bon Temps have turned maiming and killing into a fine art – but can they sing? That’s what we’ll find out if "True Blood" composer Nathan Barr‘s dreams of a musical based on the HBO series ever become a reality. “This was something that I pitched to HBO and creator Alan Ball,” Barr told the Associated Press on Tuesday at the show’s Season 7 premiere in Los Angeles. Barr said his proposed "True Blood" musical would revolve around Sookie — somewhere, Pam is rolling her eyes — and her life as a vampire-loving telepath, noting that he’s “really going to try to return to the roots of the show.” Though Barr hopes to workshop his musical in a year’s time, he hasn’t spoken with anyone about actually bringing the show to Broadway. Yet. http://tvline.com/2014/06/18/true-bl...roadway-plans/ |

A "True Blood" Musical Is in the Works
by Michael Riedel June 30, 2016 HBO is quietly developing — dare I say in the dead of night? — a Broadway musical based on its popular vampire series “True Blood”. Director Pam MacKinnon, who barely survived the fiasco that was “China Doll,” recently staged a workshop here. The cast included Ellen Foley (of TV’s “Night Court”), Claybourne Elder (Broadway’s “Bonnie & Clyde”) and Ann Harada (“Avenue Q”). The music is by Nathan Barr, who scored the TV series it’s based on; YA fiction author Elizabeth Scott (who wrote the novel Living Dead Girl) is writing the book and lyrics, and I hear Alan Ball, who created the TV show, is keeping an eye on the stage version. These are early days, but sources say the musical needs cutting: Act 1 was almost 132 pages. Like the TV show, “True Blood: The Musical” is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, La., where vampires live among humans. The town also boasts witches, fairies, shape-shifters and werewolves. If a full production ever materializes, there will be plenty of special effects. My spies liked the music and thought the book, despite its length, was fun. http://nypost.com/2016/06/30/a-true-...-in-the-works/ |

"True Blood" Creator Alan Ball Gives Details of Musical Version in the Works
by Antonia Blyth November 18, 2018 "True Blood" fans rejoice. You may be getting a fix of the vampire fantasy story in musical form. Speaking at a 10th anniversary screening of the pilot episode at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles on Sunday, creator Alan Ball gave details of the rumored musical version coming from composer Nathan Barr, which Ball says he’s heard is “pretty good”. “It tells the story of vampires coming out of the closet,” Ball said. “Ultimately it really departs from the book, because people aren’t ready, and they’re too bigoted and they end up going back in to the closet.” He said the project, which Barr first announced in 2014, is currently being workshopped, but didn’t reveal whether he will have any sort of involvement. https://deadline.com/2018/11/true-bl...on-1202504615/ |
