Confused They almost wrote Eddie out of the show?!

I saw a magazine interview (from back when the show aired) a couple of years ago with one of the producers of Family Matters. According to him, around the third season of the show, they were considering writing Eddie out of the show because they didn't know what to do with him. But luckily, someone came up with the idea of him becoming one of Steve's friends and that saved him from being written of the show.

This may not be true but how different do you think the show would be from Seasons 3-9 without Eddie?

That would make Laura an only child after Season 4 (once they wrote off Judy). Personally, I think that Family Matters without Eddie would make the other characters (Carl, Harriette and Laura) seem a little bland. They wouldn't have many people to bounce off of, and what about Waldo? Would Waldo end up being Urkel's sidekick? Ha ha. That is if Waldo was there at all.

What do you guys think about that?

Considering that Darius would become one of the only three original cast members, who stayed on all the way from the beginning, it's hard to imagine how it would've been without him. Eddy never was my favorite character, but he too was a vital part of the ensemble as the often so reckless but still mostly good-natured "normal" guy. And I also like the sub-plot of him becoming a cop, which was one of the few good things about the otherwise mostly awful season 9. So I'm glad that he was allowed to stay on after all.

I don't know if I really believe that considering they were setting him and Steve up to being friends since season one's "In a Jam". Of the three Winslow kids, Eddie had the most storylines in the first season. Laura broke out more once Urkel came on, but besides The Quilt she was usually just a smart mouth who made fun of Eddie and hung out with Judy.

If that had happened maybe they would have given Judy a bigger role in the third season, instead of reducing her to the background that season. In seasons one and two Judy was actually a part of some plotlines, but then in season three she was usually only in one scene and had barely any lines.

To me, the show wouldn't have been the same without him. We wouldn't have seen the father and son bond that he had with Carl.

God bless you always!!!

I love "The Quilt". That was a great episode from season 1.

Well let's be honest, they never really wrote Judy out of the show. She just disappeared and it was like the Winslows never even had 3 children. It was so stupid and unfair. I'm glad they kept Eddie around. They should've made Urkel disappear!
