Disney Hollywood Studios: "American Idol Experience" Closing

"American Idol Experience", a singing-competition attraction based on the popular Fox television show, will close at Disney's Hollywood Studios sometime in January 2015.

The attraction, which opened in 2009, features theme-park guests as contestants. Winners of each show return for a grand finale at the end of the day. The champion of that round, determined by audience vote, receives a "dream ticket" that lets the winner cut to the front of the line for auditions to the "American Idol" reality show.

The show includes a host and three judges that give feedback to the contestants.

"We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for American Idol," Disney, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment, the TV show's production companies, said in a joint statement.

Three of the top 13 contestants of last season's "American Idol" were discovered through the "American Idol Experience", the release said.

"We expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for 'American Idol' XIV in the coming year," it said.

The attraction was introduced to Hollywood Studios with a blue-carpet event that included TV host Ryan Seacrest and a cavalcade of "American Idol" winners and other contestants.

For the first time, all "Idol" champions appeared on the same stage at the same time. On hand were Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and David Cook.

Later, "American Idol" champs were prone to saying the trademark "I'm going to Disney World" during their victory celebration.

Disney World has not announced what will take the place of "American Idol Experience". Previous tenants of that building include "Doug Live!" and "Superstar Television."

Walt Disney World's "American Idol Experience" attraction will be closing come the end of the summer, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported in The Orlando Sentinel, the Experience will shut down for good on Aug. 30.

The theme park had announced back in June that guests would be able to compete on its stage for a chance to go to real-life auditions in Hollywood until January 2015.

But a spokesman told the Florida paper that the company moved up the closing due to a continuous review of Disney's entertainment options.
