Default How much longer will The Monkees come to our towns?

The Monkees have been touring since 2011, and then in 2012 when Davy Jones died, Michael Nesmith stepped up to the plate, and now their 2014 tour just ended. How many years will they keep going? Will this be the last or will they go for 2 more years to 2016, and have their 50th Anniversary be their last show? Or even longer? The fans are still there, a lot were sold out shows as well, I say as long as they are up to it they should just keep going!

You do realize that the combo of "Davy, Micky & Peter" started touring again with monkeemania 2 in 1986 and every few years they would also tour with even a brief London tour with all 4, but Mike didn't like the reviews, and no matter what others say, it is fact that Davy & Mike always had extreme different visions. Yes Mike joined them on stage back in the 80's at the LA Forum for the encore and participated in a 1987 Christmas MTV Monkees New Video, (I actually have the very rare master).

But to answer your question, Mike joined as soon as Davy passed because now he was free to control the group again, notice that the 2014 tour lasted only 3 weeks (17 dates), it seems The Monkees appear at conventions and tour but can only get along in short intervals. I just saw the 2014 concert, very Mike heavy as it should be, and attended the NJ convention where for the first time Mike signed and gave us fans finally the final 4th autograph we needed (at $100 a pop) btw Micky's autograph was $40!. It took me 32 years to get all four signatures on the same 8x10 color photo!

I love The Monkees but they are their own worst enemies and will continue to be, I think they will tour very limited or sadly end it when another passes.

Mike had very poor vision for several years, finally getting surgery to get the cataracts removed. This was done just prior to Davy's death. The 4 of them were in talks to go out on tour (doing the full Headquarters album). However, tragedy struck. Would Mike have stayed on for the additional tours? Who knows for sure...
As for additional tours, the rumor is that they intend to do another tour later this year, and update the set list again. Time will tell!

Just be thankful that there are three left that can still tour.

I know all about The Monkees history about Mike... don't need to be explained.

I would happy enough to be able to meet them in person or get an autograph at any price. I'm glad they are accessible as they are at their age and still doing what they love.

Not sure of your point, you started a thread asking "How long will they tour"? with the first line "The Monkees have been touring since 2011" which was unfactual, mentioning nothing of their previous decades of touring. Thought I wrote an insightful and truthful condensed history of the monkees touring since the 80's. Plus I wasn't complaining about mike's $100 autograph price, and micky being $40 it was factual.

Some "fans" take it as some personal attack, I have worked with 3 of them professionally met Mike finally at convention, no need for my resume. Whether "fans" want to believe the truth or not, the monkees final tour with davy wasn't even finished with 3 or 4 dates to go due to in-fighting, so davy went out and finished the dates with david cassidy! Their final TV appearance on "THE VIEW" Davy publically called out Mike "as a banker, not a musician" when they showed the famous overweight photo.

Congrats to the poster who wrote about Mike's "cateract surgery" after I wrote they had "different visions", don't know if he was being snide or was making the most brillant unknown pun in the world on the factual subject history of Davy wanting a comedy concert & mike a pure musicians concert.

Lastly not to mock the beloved passed, but David Jones had a serious drinking problem in which I personally witnessed in his trailor while he was shirtless about to perform solo and I was there to interview him at the NJ state fair, other reports have been written numerous times.

Again I don't get your point, I won't reply again, I thought my post was harmless and educational......next time perhaps start with "I know everything about The Monkees but how long will they tour with NEZ?"

Not getting into the rest of it right now, but Mike DID have cataract surgery shortly before Davy passed away.

I enjoyed reading this thread and don't take any of it as being a personal attack
I have a question. Why did Davy Jones change his name from David to Davy ?
And also, when exactly did this name change take place ?

Can it still be the Monkees when it is just 2 guys out there? Oh wait, there was the Changes album Yes, these 2 guys will be the Monkees to their dying days. The 4 of them may never have liked each other all that much, but a paycheck is a paycheck. Mike obviously doesn't need the moolah as much as Peter and Micky. I just find it sad that they grind it into the ground. The Monkees was always, first and foremost, a tv show ABOUT a rock group. I enjoyed the 1997 tv special, and thought that would have been a nice way to end the Monkees - all four guys together, having a good time, forever living in that beach house. But somewhere along the way, the Monkees went from being a tv show about a group to being a touring nostalgia group that makes a record once in a great while.

Dan, I'm glad that you seem to be in the minority when it comes to the Monkees. Have you been to a concert on any of their recent tours? I would hardly say they are "grinding it into the ground." I have found every show that I have gone to highly entertaining, and whatever combination of guys there have had the energy, humor, voice, and musical skills to leave everyone satisfied. If the Monkees are willing and able to tour, and the fans are willing to show up and pay for the privilege of seeing them, what in the world is wrong with that?
