Teen Sitcoms. Yay or Nay? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What do you all think about those teen sitcoms? You know, ones like Hang Time, One World, Taina, Kenan and Kel, Amanda Show, Malibu, USA High....

Perosnally I don't think much of them at all. They are all poorly written, the characters have no real depth and the acting isn't exactly Oscar worthy (to put it politely) and the sets look really cheap and tacky. I'm 18, but even when I was 14-15, I'd rather have watch a classic sitcom like Happy Days or BeWitched any day.

So what's your opinion? Yay or Nay for teen Sitcoms? If you watch/like any, which ones? I look forward to reading your opinions.

They're all lame. They all try to appeal to adults and fail miserably; I think that makes them even lamer.

Never watch them. If they air on weekends,i'm usually still asleep.

I did notice that the whole teen sitcom world is sort of a "minor league" for up and coming talent to work on their craft, so far a few have made it to the big time, like Melissa Joan Hart, who started with "Clarrisa Explains It All," then moved to prime time with "Sabrina."
Isn't Frankie Muniz's costar in "Big Fat Liar" the star of her own Teen show? Her name escapes me right now.

I have always hated Teen sitcoms, the writers seem to think that just because they are aimed at younger people they don't have to be funny. The worst of them all I think is "One World." The same company Peter Engel Productions seem to make all the worst ones.

I remember when I was around 7 or 8 seeing shows like Saved By The Bell and hating them. I started watching shows like Bewitched and Happy Days when I was about 6 and I liked them.

I love Taina. I really didn't care that Malibu U.S.A. show. Other teens shows were good. It took me a while to get into USA high. Saved by the Bell needed to be put to rest after 12 years.

My kids watch Taina and the Brothers Garcia and they seem to like it. Their ages? 11 and 5.

I hate most teen sitcoms of the 90s and now. The 70s Show is stupid and so is Student Bodies. I also hate teen drama shows, as well, such as: Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and two other shows that don't seem to air anymore: Beverly Hills 90210 and Party Of Five. Thank god! Those shows were so stupid!

It's too bad that the writers don't put more effort into their script writing for teen shows and sitcoms. Since most teen sitcoms and other teen shows seem to have poor writing in their scripts, I hate to say it, but here's what I honestly think, I think it shows that the writers don't have enough good writing talent to write good shows, since most shows are stereotypical anyway.

I also think it's a shame because so much better shows about teens could be written other than the crappy ones they have now.

Actually, when I first saw Family Ties, I thought it was a great show. I saw the Happy Days Reunion and that was a hilarious show, I thought. I also think that the 70s and 80s shows were more well thought-up in plot and had better lines back then.

I loved watching Saved by the Bell on Sat. mornings when I was younger. I also used to like Clarissa Explains It All. I have not seen any of those newer ones that were mentioned, so I don't know how they compare. I personally see nothing wrong with the teen sitcoms because I think they are targeted for a particular audience, mainly preteens/adolescents. I liked them when I was that age. I wouldn't watch them now but they really aren't trying to appeal to an older audience, so it makes since that I probably wouldn't like them.

since i'm a teen, i say that i like SOME teen sitcoms. Like Malcolm In The Middle is a big PLUS for a teen sitcom!

I thought that "Saved by the Bell" and "Boy Meets World" are probably two of the best teen sitcoms. All of the other ones haven't even come close.

I guess I'm a little confused about the definition of a teen sitcom. I was under the impression that teen sitcoms are not the typical primetime network sitcom. I don't consider That 70's Show, Boy Meets World or Malcolm in the Middle to be teen sitcoms. Yeah they have teens in them but they are much different than those that air on Sat. mornings. Anyone else know what I mean? I was basing my previous opinion on the shows listed in the first post. I really enjoy sitcoms like Malcolm and 70's Show, which seem to appeal to a wider audience.

I liked Saved by the Bell even the episodes with the new class but as years went by it got stale IMO. I loved Screech but he seriously got on my nerves. By 1996 his voice changed up and I think that is what bugged me the most. Plus every season 3 kids were dropped and 3 new ones were added. Then in 1998-2000 the same cast remained and was solid.

Boy Meets World is one of the best sitcoms based on Teens. I loved that show and it really never got stale. To me the title seemed to fit perfect. From age 11, Cory Matthews learned and experienced new things. In later years, he continued to learn and experience things and took on new challenges including marriage. That is why I liked this show. I give it an "A"
