The FBI guy told James he didn't think his boss would overreact when they came to
his job looking for him?
 Damm that was a stupid man. If the police goes to anyone's job looking to speak with an employee the end result maybe fired.BTW: JJ got fired for being a poor employee

Though it was stupid, I can see why the FBI man would think the boss wouldn't fire James just because of the questioning. For all the boss knew, James could have had a relative die and the FBI was there to break the news to him.
