I think I'd vote for Family Ties over all of them- but I do enjoy most all of them to some degree. Um, though I'm no good with these things, let's see.........

ALF, Perfect Strangers, Who's The Boss?, Mr. Belvedere, The Cosby Show, The Facts of Life and The Golden Girls all tied at first place.
And Cheers, Mama's Family, and Designing Women somewhere below that.

In my cranky opinion:

1. Cheers
2. The Cosby Show (the first few seasons, anyway... then it devolved into something too cute and too impressed with itself, so I gradually stopped watching it. I think the addition of Raven-Symone was the straw that broke the camel's back, for me)
3-9. The bulk of the list are all interchangeable to me; I never really liked any of them or outright avoided them. Mama's Family, imho, worked better as occasional skits on The Carol Burnett Show than as a stand-alone sitcom. No offense meant to its fans.
10. Who's the Boss was probably the nadir, though. I remember being dumbfounded that ran as long as it did. This helped to sour me on post-'70s sitcoms, in general.

In retrospect, as good as Cheers could be, I'd have to put Night Court above it. Night Court to me was more consistently funny over the long haul, and has stronger repeat value. And, though they were decade-straddlers, the last couple of seasons of both Taxi and Barney Miller would also best Cheers. On top of that, the early '80s half of WKRP in Cincinnati rules over all. The single greatest sitcom ever made, even if it was basically following the workplace ensemble template pioneered by both The Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Tyler Moore Show.

1. The Cosby Show
2. The Facts of Life [first four seasons only]
3. The Golden Girls
4. Mr. Belvedere
5. ALF
6. Cheers
7. Designing Women
8. Perfect Strangers
9. Who's the Boss?
10. Mama's Family

But I agree that several classic 80s sitcoms (Growing Pains, Diff'rent Strokes, Night Court, Charles in Charge, etc) are inexplicably left off the list, meaning the poll isn't very accurate.

Polls are only opinions, just because some of your favorite shows may not have been included in the original list doesn't mean it's inaccurate. These may be tlc38tlc38's 10 favorite shows from the 80's or 10 picked at random. Either way, there's nothing inaccurate about it.

This really wasn't a poll, it was just to see how these certain sitcoms ranked when grouped together.

Who said the shows I gave as examples were my favorite shows? Night Court would never be on my list of favorite shows.

Sure there is. If you want a good representation of a ranking, you include enough options to get a reasonable result. If you limit the responses to only ten, the result won't be very accurate.

I said may not have been, not that they were.

We're not talking about the number of options, the selection was 10. If you're not happy with that then please feel free to start your own thread and list as many as you like. It doesn't matter if the thread includes 10 sitcoms from the 80's or every single one, the rankings won't be accurate or agreed upon by everyone.
