Default What happens to all the failed TV shows..........

......after they are cancelled?

Some sitcom or series is cancelled after one season, some show that few watched, is forgotten.

For example....Condo starring McLean Stevenson. Lasted the Spring of 1983.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condo_(TV_series)

Is there still copies of that show somewhere? Is there a vault the network has that stores these programs? Seems like a waste of space to me, but I do not know how that works.

It would be cool to see some of these shows on the internet. Have a website. I want to see Pink Lady and Jeff. It's Japanese chicks in tight outfits. I am sure though that in some Byzantine vault underground somewhere, I can find a reel of it, and Condo, mind maybe Turn On!

Where do all the lunkers go. Is CBS going to keep a copy of "We Are Men" forever?

Some "One Year-Wonder's" do make it to DVD. Examples include the following:

Frontier Circus

The Invisible Man (1974)

Logan's Run

Mr. Lucky

Probe/Search

Space: Above and Beyond

Various Mill Creek Releases such as:

Disappearing Frontier

Stingray

Not to mention their "Shovelware" set Prime Time Crime, which consists of four "One Season Wonders"

Many of the Hanna-Barbera "Saturday Morning Cartoons"

A number of the Gerry Anderson "Supermarionation" Series

I could go on and on!

Others can be had from our "Little Friends" at ioffer.com and sell.com.

It would also be nice to see some more of the older one season shows re-run on TV more.A lot of programs that lasted only one season or so made during the 1950s-early 80s are pretty good,at least the ones I've seen. A few of them have aired recently on channels like Antenna and MeTV (Gidget being one example) but they should show more of them.

I'm hoping to have a TV Station one day where I can play One-Year Wonders and there's an hour dedicated to it...I just hope I can get the regulations to do so....

Well I would imagine today that most shows are recorded digitally and are stored that way as well. I don't know for sure, I'm guessing...

I assume most shows between the 70's and today were probably stored in a vault by whatever studio was responsible for them.... I can't say much about anything before the 70's, I'm sure many shows are simply lost... I don't know.

Well, some shows like Freaks and Geeks and Firefly go on to become cult classics.

But most of them just die. There's an astonishing amount of shows that no one remembers even existed...even in recent years. Anyone remember Man Up? How about How to Be a Gentleman? The Firm?

There was one station that was playing many of these one season shows. I'm not sure if they still do but it was weird to see listings for shows I never saw. Others do end up in syndication or DVD depending on a variety of factors such as its later popularity. I'm sure some older ones were just wiped (that is the taped was erased)but others were probably stored, especially later ones.

If a failed TV show ends up being cancelled after one to three seasons, then I would imagine a scenario similar to the ending of the film "Raiders of the Lost Ark", where all of the prints and negative of the episodes of the failed TV show are to be permanently stored in some huge warehouse over countless similar-looking crates.

Add Blue Thunder to that list. It was from Rastar/Public Arts/CPT, and ran for only 11 outings on ABC in 1984. I have Sony's complete release of it, though, and it wasn't too bad, in my opinion.

I particularly like these. The Blue Thunder TV series is cool too.
And yes- a number of other classic one season wonders have thankfully made it to DVD- like Voyagers!, Automan (only Region 2 so far though), Manimal (again- only Region 2), and one of my all time favorites- Starman.
