Every watch an episode when somebody first meet the Drummands and ask are these boys your son? Like it so unheard of. This was the late 70's to 1980's. Not the 1950's. Could it occer to anyone that maybe he was thier father because he was married to a black lady. Come on Norman Leer, you are the man who pushed the envelope in the 70's. Remember the Willis on the Jefferson. Also remember one of my all time favorite All in the Family episodes when Lional dates Archie's niece. My favorite part is when Edith tries to hide the picture. So funny. Dame the conservitive 80's.
Archie: If god wanted us to dance with thems people. Mike: He would have given use rhythm to. |

I thought it was a bit unfair when I.e in the Mother's Last Visit episode when she fained and the audience laughed when she saw the boys and looked horrafied.

Yeah I agree, I always hated some people's reactions. Although if they had been Mr Drummonds sons they probably would have been a little lighter. If you ever look at the kids of interracial parents, they usually have lighter features. Hopefully in the episode where the audience laughed after Mr. Drummond's mother faints they were laughing at her for being so stupid. I hope so anyway. There's an episode coming up next week where the family really has to deal with racism. I forget what it's about though.

While we're on this subject of interractial marriage (and forgive me for the fact that I am going into another sitcom, I know I shouldn't do this at the DS board) but why is it that there were so many mulattoes on The Cosby Show (Denise and Sondra Huxtable, for example, and many of the friends who visited the house) when the parents were not an "interracial couple" (to the best of my knowledge).? No offense to anyone, but I do happen to know of a few darker-skinned African Americans who felt a little strange about that. My point here is- what's wrong with putting more focus on darker-skinned blacks, and giving them more starring roles on TV? |

Yes, it is easier for a lighter skin aferican americans to have mainstream success. Perfect example, Prince. I believe Prince is a quarter white? Unfortunitly, society still judges you by the color of your skin. Hopefully that will change one day. Rumor has it that is the reason Michael Jackson looks the way he is. Althought he's biggest success came when he had darker skin. How ironic.

Yea, that is ironic about Michael Jackson. Whatever's the case with his lighter skin, I think he would be doing just as well today if his skin were still darker. The man is a legend!
