Has a company ever come out with their own version of vita-meata-veggie, to any of you's knowlege?
Without the booze, hopefully!

Actually art imitated life. A "health tonic" called Hadacol was all the rage in the late 1940s. It contained a high percentage of alcohol, and was marketed in much the same way as Vitameatavegamin; in fact, there was a song called "Hadacol Blues Boogie" that was a major hit on the "hillbilly" (read country music) charts. Some people claimed the alcohol was what made Hadacol so effective--and so popular! Google "Hadacol" if you'd like more details...

Oh, so that episode was a satire of that product!

That's quite interesting to know! I do have a fake bottle of Vitametavegamin with Lucy on it.

The closest thing to Vitameatavegamin (other than Hadacol) that I can think of would be Geritol (which in the 1950's and 1960's was billed as "the high-potency vitamin-and-iron-rich tonic that helps you feel stronger fast!")
Remember when we used to blame everything on "tired blood?" (If you do, you're about my age!) |

Well, I've never heard of anything like it in real life, but there was a
Good Times episode where Florida is selling something similar and doing a commercial for a product called Vita Brite. She decides not to do the commercial when she finds out she has to lie on there, then the family tries some and Michael gets drunk. It was basically a knock off of this I Love Lucy episode. Vita Brite was basically Vitameatavegamin. |
