Sure, I put ceramic stuff from my bathroom in the dishwasher (cup, toothbrush holder, soap dish). Anything plastic or ceramic ends up there. I also put sponges in the dishwater. Even hairbrushes and comb get clean there, as long as all the hair is out of them first.

Sometimes my dad would put his caps in there. He had a plastic cap saver that went over the bill of the cap so it would not ruin the bill.

My husband had cooked fish in the dishwasher! He wraps a large fish(whitefish, salmon, etc,) in aluminum foil and runs the cycle. The fish is basically steamed. We have also washed ball caps using a plastic cap frame. The dishwasher is excellent for washing the filter of the stove's fume hood which is almost impossible to clean by hand.

No I haven't have cleaned anything but dishes. My dishwasher goes an hour and half so I prefer my washing machine which takes half the time for clothes washing.

We usually wash our dishes by hand now. Because the washer takes an hour and a half plus it is so noisy. We use the dishwasher probably once every two months.

I use my dishwasher like many of you do. About every 5 days. When I run out of coffee cups and too many dishes then I will run it. There are only 2 in my family and I can't run it every night. It just doesn't fill up. The down side to this is, open up the door and a stinky odor pops out. So many times, I just do dishes by hand. Nice thing about hand washing, you get to wash your hands. They talk about germs on everything, and this gives you a change to clean your hands.
