"True Detective" edged the previous record for first-year gross viewership held by "Six Feet Under", which averaged 11.4 million. The murder mystery also was ahead of the Season 1 cume viewership for "Game of Thrones", which holds the record for HBO’s most-watched series overall, averaging 14.4 million viewers for its most recent third season. http://www.deadline.com/2014/04/true...n-series-ever/
