Does anyone know if there are ANY VHS VERSIONS OF THIS MOVIE WITH THE RIGHT SOUND TRACK?
I got this movie months ago on its offical VHS tape (SP mode) and its not the same soundtrack I heard on HBO in the 80s! (When the guy goes by that first car its a different song than on HBO,etc) -- IT SUCKS!! (Not as good) I tried finding an original 1983 copy of this movie but I havent been able to.. (I had 2,both from 1986 -- I got rid of both) Pisses me off.... WHY DID HBO HAVE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE BUT ON VHS THEY HAD AN ALTERNATE ONE?? (And this was 3 years after 1983) I have this movie taped off HBO from analogue cable in the 80s (SLP mode) but I wanted to get it in the BEST quality and I was muchly dissapointed!! Ah well... |

The publishers behind The Pointer Sisters' I'm So Excited have got to be some of the greediest bastards ever. Don't they realize that by not allowing Warner Bros. to use the song for Home Video releases, they are doing nothing but shooting themselves in the foot? It is common sense.
Sadly, I have not seen the 1983 clamshell edition to confirm if that song is intact or not. But anyways, here is a clip of that song from a USA Network broadcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTN7utu_JSI |

Well HBO had the original reel to reel master (That drive-ins used) so if there was ever a tape made with that, obviously it has the right stuff..
Thats insane...... Why would they not want thier song heard on it?? |

Dude111, it should also be noted that in pretty much all the home video releases of this film after the mid-1980's, the original "Big W" logo from the 70's is replaced with the blue sky WB Shield logo from the 80's and 90's. I asked you if you are a pursuit of original opening logos a few times, but you never answered my question.

Thank you. Anyways, I'll help you look for the 1983 VHS Clamshell edition on ebay.
But even if it does not have I'm So Excited, all is not lost. Do you have any editing skills whatsoever? You can create your own hybrid version of the film. All the scenes with I'm So Excited will be from the HBO print that you have, and the rest of the scenes will be from the 1983 VHS Clamshell edition. How about that? |

I was @ salvation army today and saw a home made tape and it said "National lampoon vacation" on it and they put the date they recorded it..... 2/3/95
It was recorded from HBO but it was NOT THE ORIGINAL LIKE HBO USED TO HAVE IN THE 80s!! ('Im so excited' isnt there but its still listed in the credits which I think is quite stupid) Im glad I have a copy of the original!!! (Granted its in SLP mode but its the best ill get of it!!) -- Thank you Vahan for any help!! (I dunno why they made such a big deal about a stupid song, its really insane) |

Yup thats what it looks like buddy!
Your trying to find one also arent ya?? Its amazing..... I have had 3 other copies IN THIS SAME BOX (Same tape label) and they were not the original master! (Seems like they have destroyed nearly all of them) I even ordered one OFF EBAY that said IT WAS THE FIRST RELEASE!! (It wasnt the original and that one WAS RELEASED THAT YEAR!! (I dont know when this tape I just got was made (The date is covered by a sticker))) |

There was also an older copy of the film in clamshell packaging, and with this particular tape label. Obviously not the same movie, but it should give you an example of what I am talking about. http://videoreview.ws/jcl/looker.vhs.s.2.JPG See how this has an older Warner Home Video logo on the label? |

Don't know how reputable IMDB can be but according to them info when Vacation was originally released to theaters it did have "I'm So Excited " but was quickly replaced with "Little Boy Sweet" but then when finally released to home video I'm So Excited was put back in since by the time the movie left theaters and onto video the Pointer Sister's had become popular.
Strangely I'm So Excited is not present on the actual movie soundtrack. |

Yup the movie RISKY BUSINESS I have has that W
(On the box it comes in)And yes that date is covered by a sticker,(It says "National Lampoon's Vacation") if I can find some super glue, ill pull the sticker back and look at it... (Im kinda curious (I just wanna be able to put it back)) Its sad Vahan...... All the original Purity our world used to have started to be ruined in the 80s ![]() EDIT: I just pulled the sticker back a little as the date was right there (All I could see was 100) The date is 10/02/89 which is interesting because THE FIRST RELEASE OF THIS in 83 was not the original!! (And all newer releases are not the original analog master (@ least the ones I have had before this)) |

I watched it last night... Its the exact same version I recorded from HBO in SLP mode in the 80s..
Its nice watching it in SP mode cause all these years I have been watching the copy I recorded in SLP and the quality is not as good... (Video/audio) This must be one of the VERY FEW out there that used the original analog master! |
