TV "HIMYM" Alt. Ending to be Included on Complete Series Release

"How I Met Your Mother" Alternate Finale Ending will be Included in Complete Series DVD Set
by Andy Swift
4/4/14

"How I Met Your Mother‘s" series finale featured one of the most polarizing conclusions in sitcom history, but it looks like disgruntled fans might get a second chance at happiness, as an alternate ending will be included in the complete series’ DVD release.

I hear the alternate ending does not involve additional footage but rather a different editing of the episode. HIMYM producers and studio 20th Century Fox TV would not comment on any specifics of the alternate closing, but a source described it as a “happy ending.

HIMYM‘s co-creator Carter Bays confirmed the inclusion of the alternate ending on Friday, tweeting:

"If you didn’t like the finale, I guess that happens. We tried something and it didn’t connect with you. I hope we’re still friends. So anyway, here’s a bit of news:

16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings. We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too.

We’re going to include that version on the Complete Series DVD as an alternate finale to How I Met Your Mother.
"

Bays also tweeted a look at the complete series' packaging:

"The #HIMYM Series DVD Collection comes out this fall, and it's full of other cool stuff. Here's what it looks like:"

I love the ORIGINAL ending, no need for a sleight of hand one
really pathetic that haters would change WHAT THE PRODUCERS wanted.
If you loved ONE episode of the show, wouldn't it make sense to HONOR the producers wishes?
Good God, it's only a TV show and hey, the haters aren't the producers.
If you want your own tv show, get a 100 million or so and make your own.

(now, I am a Bobby in the Shower fan, I loved that ending so...)(I recall one or two people hated that.)

the girl in the band being his one and true love and the mother reeked to me of a dime store crime novel that added a character in the final pages and was the one who done it (See Murder by Death for ones opinion of that)

This was the damn greatest episode since the Newhart finale. All the others pale in comparison.

YES, Here Here! Ohmrwilson if you havent read my response back to you to mine in the HIMYM "Had to post this" thread, please feel free to do so!

Plus I wouldn't buy a fancy expensive complete series box when I already own the first 8 separate seasons, I like having individual season sets, as some seasons are better than others like in all series, and it also shows the growth of the characters, acting, writing, producing, different covers art, etc!

Everybody has their opinion and MANY, MANY PEOPLE must have complained for them to make a statement like that and to have an alternate ending.

However, I have to side with NOT having an alternate ending. It's almost like saying, this is the way it was, but we've upset so many people that we will cut some of the stuff out that you didn't want to see.

You can't unscramble an egg. We've already seen the way it was intended. Everyone who buys the box set to enjoy the alternate ending, will always remember how it actually aired.

I'm with TeeVeeCloset. Why would I buy the entire series package when I already own several seasons?

Yup.

as to sets- in the past, on shows that were my favorites, I bought as they came out.
Then they stopped releasing certain shows last few seasons, so I bought the box set even though I had 4 of 6 or 6 of 8.

I recently bought the cheapie WKRP complete because as said on one post, I gave up on that show and only recently did someone say Eric and Donna did seem to get back together (as they should have all along) so it made me want to watch all of them again.

I am a romantic at heart

I wouldn't mind seeing the alternate ending, though I liked the recent ending.
