In Canada and many other countries around the world the amount of commercial time allowed to be shown on TV channels is still properly controlled(like it used to be in the US),so there is little or no reason to edit older shows.

By the way if that episode of One Day At a Time was only 23 minutes long it still had about 2 minutes of it edited out, still much better than typical American commercial filled TV channels though..Un-cut they run about 25 minutes or so. Edit:I think the episode you mentioned was originally broadcast in 1984,so then maybe just a minute or less was cut out.

23 minutes is still considered to be unedited as the standard today is 22 minutes or less. Unedited programs ran between 23 to 25 minutes for half hour shows. Not every show that ran back then had to be 25 minutes long.

During the 1970's-early80's on American TV channels commercial time was limited to a maximum of about 5 minutes per half hour,so most half hour shows did run 25 minutes or so give or take a few seconds. During the 1960s and before, the limit was a maximum of 4 minutes,so half hour shows ran about 26 minutes.

Well I have a version of that episode from CBS as well and it is about 23 minutes long. No edits were made and I can verify now.
The standard for shows back then might have been 25 minutes but not every show had to be 25 minutes |
