Movie "Barbershop: The Next Cut" Trailer Released

MGM Re-Opens Barbershop for Business with Ice Cube Deal
by MIKE FLEMING JR
March 26, 2014

MGM is reviving its Barbershop franchise. The film company is negotiating a mid-seven-figure deal with Ice Cube to reprise his role as the catalyst for Barbershop 3.

They are about to start talking to writers and I’m told the hope is to re-enlist Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah as well.

The 2002 original cost $12 million and grossed $75 million domestic while the 2004 sequel cost $30 million and grossed $65 million.

MGM, whose late good fortunes are driven primarily by the 007 and Hobbit franchises, have clearly made franchise building a priority.

There is a second Hot Tub Time Machine coming through Paramount at year’s end, Hercules has sequel aspirations, and there is the revival of the Poltergeist series.

MGM is also working on the animated version of The Addams Family.

Cube has been thriving in franchise work. He reprises in Sony’s 22 Jump Street, which Sony releases June 13 with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum reprising their roles as bumbling narcs.

And after Universal saw Ride Along gross $146 million worldwide on a $25 million budget, the studio has greenlit the sequel to start production in late June with Cube and Kevin Hart reprising.

Cube is separately producing Straight Outta Compton, the F. Gary Gray-directed adaptation of the formation of NWA, the hip-hop ensemble that launched the careers of Cube, Easy E and Dr. Dre. He’s producing that with Dre, Easy E’s widow Tomika Wright and Matt Alvarez.

Universal is casting and production is to begin this summer.

Cube will produce Barbershop 3 with Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr.

Oh lord, not another Barbershop and Ride Along sequels hahahahahahaha. Barbershop 2 sucked and Ride Along sucked. Kevin Hart isn't that funny. He's funny sometimes but Ride Along was terrible. I was surprised Larry Fishburne and John Leguizamo was in that. I heard about him doing a NWA movie and i definitely wanna see that because i'm a NWA fan. RIP Eazy E. MC Ren was in NWA and he's a slept on rapper. He was the 2nd best rapper in the group behind Ice Cube. Some people think NWA sucked after Ice Cube left and that's not true because their Nig*az4life album was very good. If Ice Cube wants to do a sequel to one of his movies, he should do a sequel to All About The Benjamins. I heard he might do another Friday sequel and he's been talking to Chris Tucker to be in it because the fans of the first one loved Chris. If Ice Cube does do another Friday, i don't think Chris will be in it. I'm really disappointed in Chris acting career because he's only done a few good movies. He shouldn't have done sequels to Rush Hour.

Never saw "Ride Along" - never wanted to. From what I can tell in the movie poster, Kevin Hart is supposed to marry Ice Cube's sister and Ice Cube has a huge problem with that. Did he ever marry Ice Cube's sister? If so, what's left for a sequel? Did the film end with Hart and Cube getting along? If so, there goes the tension chemistry that must have been the drive behind the first fiilm. Again with these two interpersonal conflicts gone, what's possibly left for the sequel??

LOL@Cleverfun3000 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I think it's stupid to make a sequel to Ride Along. Just because the movie made a lot of money doesn't mean it should get a sequel.

I'll pass on another Barbershop sequel because I didn't like part 2. I see rapper Eve and Regina Hall are in the picture above that JamesG posted. I like Eve and Regina. Ice Cube did a movie with Regina called First Sunday and Tracy Morgan and Katt Williams were in that. I see rapper Common is also in Barbershop 3. Common and Ice Cube used to have beef because Common dissed him on The B*tch In You song. Ice Cube dissed him first on Mack 10's Slaughterhouse song. Common's diss song is better than Ice Cube's diss song because Common dissed him badly hahahahahahahaha. Minister Louis Farrakhan called a meeting at his house with some rappers from the eastcoast and westcoast that had beef with each other because Louis didn't want rappers to kill each other. Louis was concerned about the murders of rappers 2Pac and Notorious Big. So that's why he called the meeting and Ice Cube and Common squashed their beef.

Cleverfun3000, Kevin Hart is gonna marry Ice Cube's sister Tika Sumpter in Ride Along 2 and that's why a sequel was made. It's coming out this Friday. Tika is cute and she was in a remake of Sparkle movie with Omari Hardwick, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Derek Luke and singer Whitney Houston. She was also in Stomp The Yard 2 with Keith David, Collins Pennie, singer Kiely Williams and rapper David Banner. I love Kiely Williams and she's hot. I love lightskin black women.
