Hi, when is UM coming back. Never in my life have I heard from a website (UM's official one) on so many times that its show is coming back, but never does. They also say they want suggestions for their new show, but nothing ever comes of it.
While Dennis Farina passed away I do not think that made a different in UM coming back as a new show. I think they would have gotten a new host. But I kinda wish Farina was still alive and as the new host of UM. He could talk about old UM episodes and new episodes. But all segments need to have that scary background music. that is what killed the Farina UM (besides always being re-runs) - they used new music for it, not the original scores. I think UM will never come back. Today we already have so many great detective/murder shows like new ones every Friday and Saturday night on Dateline, 20/20, and 48 hours. We also have reruns late night of cold case files and forensic files. Americans Most Wanted was cancelled after only 1 season with Lifetime! What the heck? Naturally not every show can last forever, unless its pro wrestling lol. the only good thing that UM has that AMW doesn't is a long break. AMW was on forever and people got tired of it. But it was always a good show. Heck I even got tired of that show, but now I miss it. UM has been gone since 2002 - that is 12 years ago! It should come back with a deep voiced host like James Earl Jones. 1. Do you think UM will come back? 2. If it does not come back as a regular show would you be ok with an UM that only appears a few times once in a great while, like UM did in the first place with those hosts before Robert Stack? In today's internet age we can get detective stuff 24/7 online and I would think its best that UM go back to its roots and only air a special 2 hour program once every 2 months. AMW did this for a while - before they went off the air for good they aired 2 hour specials every couple months on Fox. This would make for great tv because we would never get any reruns and we could learn about new murders and ghost stories. If this does not happen I wish the producers of UM could appear on a one time special with a panel of 12 top UM fans. The show could be online at their website and on youtube if no tv channels pick it up! It could be 3 hours long and talk only about those UM segments with no answer like these: 1. dick Hansen 2. tom Johnson 3. "carol" 4. Mathew chase 5. Mistake hit/Charles Morgan As a fan of UM it would be interesting to hear the producers and/or directors of the old show talk about their old shows on tv. they could ask the fans in the studio audience about their opinions on the old unsolved murder cases for example. -they could also bring on some of the murdered victims families and friends like that woman from Dick Hansen or the mother of Matt Flores or the parents of Mathew Chase. I bet some families would be willing to appear because they still need help. |

If it's just the Farina reboot, who cares if it comes back or fades into obscurity forever? And I'm not only saying that from the nostalgic/completion perspective, but also from the usefulness (or lack of). To my knowledge, the late 00s reboot has never been successful at solving even one case! No doubt, the heavy editing and leaving out dates and other crucial information doesn't help.
EDIT: I posted that just before I left this morning and now I can reply in more detail. I think it COULD perhaps work if it was done in the same documentary storytelling way that made vintage UM so compelling. I don't think it should be a close of classic UM (that would feel like trying to recapture the past, but not being quite as genuine), but a new show similar to it.It should focus on solely new/newer cases, and only have a tie in with the original UM if one of those cases gets pertinent new information or gets solved. |
