Patrice Wymore Flynn, the American born actress and widow of actor Errol Flynn, who made Jamaica her home, died on Saturday in the eastern Jamaica parish of Portland where she lived for more than half a century. She was 87. Patrice Wymore was born in Miltonvale, Kansas, and at the age of six she began touring with her family, who were vaudeville performers. In 1947 she won a role in Up in Central Park, following which she performed in the Broadway musical Hold It! She won a Theatre World Award for "Promising Actress," for that performance. A role in All for Love followed in 1949, after which she moved to Hollywood and the movies. Wymore's first film appearance was in the 1950 film Tea for Two, starring Doris Day and Gordon MacRae. That same year she starred in Rocky Mountain opposite Hollywood legend Errol Flynn, whom she married in October 1950. The glamorous couple then moved to Jamaica, where their daughter, Arnella was born in 1953. Arnella had a successful career as a fashion model in Europe. The Flynn’s move to Jamaica did not signal an end to their acting careers. Wymore’s film credits over the ensuing years include I'll See You in My Dreams, Starlift, She's Back on Broadway, The Man Behind the Gun, and King's Rhapsody. Errol Flynn died in October 1959. Following his passing, Wymore resume acting for a while. She appeared in the musicals Carnival!, Guys and Dolls, Irma La Douce, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She had a minor role as Adele Elkstrom in the hit film Ocean's 11 in 1960. She made three guest appearances on Perry Mason. In 1965 she played the title character Victoria Dawn in The Case of the Murderous Mermaid. She had a busy year in 1965, also having a role in the soap opera Never Too Young. In 1966 she appeared in the film Chamber of Horrors and in 1967 made her last appearance on the television series F Troop. From her residence – Castle Comfort – on the Errol Flynn Estate in Boston, eastern Portland, she contributed to the life of the community, while raising red poll cattle and growing coconuts. The Errol Flynn Marina is in Port Antonio is named in honour of her husband. She leaves behind a grandson, screen writer and actor, Luke Flynn. |
