Default Questions About "Thing?"

1.) Did they always have Ted Cassidy (Lurch) be "Thing's" hand? What about scenes where Lurch and "Thing" had to be in close proximity to each other?

2.) Who was the hand of "Lady Fingers?" "Thing's" girlfriend?

Satch

According to imdb.com:

Thing, the disembodied hand/arm limb, was usually played by Ted Cassidy. When Lurch had to be on camera at the same time as Thing, however, associate producer Jack Voglin lent his hand. A third actor also played Thing on occasion, but his identity is not known.

I also remember an Entertainment Tonight segment on the Addams Family series when the film was released in 1991 and in the segment they said Thing's hand would be supplied by one of the crew members; I can't recall his name, but if I come across that tape, I'll update this post.

As for Lady Fingers or her claw-like replacement, I have never heard any information on that. It's possible that the remaining cast members might know.

Satch

1. They did have a stand-in person to play Think when Ted Cassidy was in the shot, but I dunno who it was.

2.I'm pretty sure Carolyn Jones ~Morticia~ played Lady Fingers, It seems I heard that she and Ted Cassidy had a hard time crouching down under the table when they were playing Thing and Lady Fingers together.

One of my favorite trivia questions is asking people whether Thing was a right hand or a left hand. Naturally no one except a real fan would know. Sometimes it was a right hand and sometimes it was a left hand. Which makes you wonder what was in the middle......

Apparently, Thing was ambidextrous.

in the cartoon series that ran in The New Yorker magazine; Thing didn't have a name but once in an interview Charles Addams (the author) called it "the thing". So that's why they decided to name it "thing"

The family also didn't have a name, they named them THE ADDAMS FAMILY" after Charles Addams.

Didn't Charles Addams have the cartoons of the family in the New Yorker Magazine?.

There was one episode where Morticia Addams ( Carolyn Jones ) explained that Thing's full name was "Thing T . Thing" . The Addams family should have had a relative named "Adam Addams" .
