Drummer Scott Asheton (Iggy Pop & The Stooges) Dies at 64

Sad news has come out as Iggy Pop posted via Facebook that Iggy Pop & The Stooges drummer Scott Asheton passed away last night. He was 64 years old. No cause of death has yet been announced. Iggy posted the following message: “My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night. Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me. My thoughts are with his sister Kathy, his wife Liz and his daughter Leanna, who was the light of his life.” Aside from Iggy Pop, Asheton was the only consistent member of The Stooges since their inception in 1967. His brother, The Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, passed away in 2009. Our thoughts go out to Asheton’s friends, family, and to the fans and members of The Stooges. |
