Question Anybody giving up something for lent?

Now that Bling-Bling Day (That's Mardi Gras for those of you in Rio Linda!) is behind us we are in the period known as lent. This period of time is symbolic of Jesus spending 40 days in the wilderness. Many Christians "Go veggie" (One of Bling Bling Day's names is Carnival, which means "Farewell Meat") during this period. As most of you know, this past holiday season I went on an all-soup diet to compensate for the blow-out meals eaten during parties and the holidays themselves. Guess what? IT WORKED! So I have decided to re-activate it for lent. From now until Easter with the exception of Sundays (Lent takes a day off on Sunday) and March 17 & 18 (St Patrick's Day and Reuben Day), I have the traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage Supper on the former, then eat Reuben Sandwiches on the latter. I will be on an all-soup diet again. Some if you think lent is some kind of religious bull-o-nee, but for those of you who need to lose weight this is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to do so.

Post away friends!

I'm trying The Daniel Diet. I can only eat the foods the prophet Daniel ate for 40 days. No meat, no dairy, no eggs, no caffeine, no sugar, no alcohol, and no yeast.

It's going okay, but I sure miss meat.

Cool! I presume you're using Rick Warren's new book? Nice- hope that goes well. My particular denomination generally doesn't do much for Lent, but for everyone who is giving something up for Lent, I do trust and pray it is a fruitful time for you in growing closer to The Lord Jesus.
I don't always specifically participate in Lent as such, but I have done various fasts at different times and I do think that Lent has much the same idea- giving up something that you may enjoy in order to spend that time seeking The Lord all the more- and I'm always trying to seek Him more. I join my Christian brothers and sisters around the world in contemplating on the sacrifice He made for us all to give us salvation and His glorious Resurrection we will celebrate soon at Easter! Hallelujah! Christ arose! And because Jesus lives, we will live also.

Nope, Lutherans generally don't do that.
