Was Myra insecure towards Laura - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

It always scared me how much insecure a cute girl like Myra was towards Laura for no reason other then Steve Having a huge crush on her, its weird Laura did not even like Steve Urkel the way Steve liked her so why would Myra worry about Steve cheating on her with his next door neighbor, and one thing that is strange is that if Steve even mentions Laura's name she starts to get offended.

Can you BLAME Myra for getting offended every time Steve mentions Laura's name? Steve was supposed to be in a relationship with Myra, and Myra demanded he put her #1 above ALL women, including Laura. Did Steve do that? No, he just used Myra until his so called "true love" finally changed her feelings toward him.

I never "got" Urkel's obsession with Laura. Sure, she was a nice looking girl, but she was mean to him. Myra, on the other hand, treated him like a king, and she was hot-hot-hot! Any guy with a brain would be thrilled to have a girl like Myra.

Steve warned Myra all the time that he would never stop loving Laura and they became a couple with both of them knowing that Steve would always love her. Steve made it perfectly clear all the time. Myra knew that, so she shouldn't have been surprised that once Laura returned her feelings for Steve, that he would go to her. While I'm no Steve-Laura shipper, I'm also not a Steve-Myra shipper. Myra was too possessive and crazy. Now I agree with all fans that say the writers went overboard with her character in the final season and turned into a lunatic, but she was always jealous and clingy, she just became even more so as the series progressed. Furthermore, people are always calling Laura a shallow girl who solely didn't like Steve because a nerd. But Laura was really only genuinely mean to Steve when she was younger. She matured over time and progressively became nicer to Steve around mid-fourth season. Besides, how would you feel if some pesky nerd was always following you around, destroying your home on a regular basis and irritating not only you, but your entire family and scaring away all the guys you ever liked? In real life, Laura would've been way meaner than she ever was in the show. While Steve meant no harm of course, he was pretty annoying and Laura initially didn't like him because he was a nerd, you could make an argument out of that. But by the third season, you could tell that the only reason she didn't really like him was because he was a pest. All in all, of course Myra would be jealous of Laura because Steve idolized her. I think Myra was needed to make Laura appreciate Steve, because if you watch the fourth season finale "Buds 'n Buns" you can tell that that's when Laura started to realize that Steve was her friend and from that point on, she was kinder toward him. Though she did have moments where she was extremely mean to him.

Still, if it took MYRA for Laura to see Steve for the good person he really is, then Myra deserved him more than Laura did. One may argue that Myra had her chance, but she blew it by being too overly clingy, possessive, and jealous, but Laura had a million chances and blew all of those and now she's married to Steve (one can assume)!

BTW, Myra DID demand Steve stop thinking about Laura every time she's around in season 6's "Paradise Bluff," or she'll dump him, and Steve jerkingly lied to Myra so he could keep using her company until his so called "true love" came through. In the end, Steve deserved to end up alone, with neither Laura OR Myra, simply because of that!

Love makes people do crazy things. While Steve did kind of use Myra, he never went through the trouble to hide the fact that he was in love with Laura, so it was no secret that he loved Laura and Myra knew that. Second, Myra was too clingy and possessive of Steve to the point where she assaulted his sexually a few times and went crazy whenever he told her to calm down. While Steve was arguably possessive of Laura, he never went physical with it and he didn't throw a giant tantrum every time he was rejected by Laura, unlike Myra. True, it took Steve spending time with Myra to make Laura appreciate him more AS A FRIEND, but if you ask me, neither of the girls deserved Steve. He did a whole bunch of wonderful things for Laura purely out of love, he even hooked her up with Ted once even though it made him miserable while Myra went out of her way to make sure she had Steve no matter what even if it hurt Steve himself in the process though she did it purely out of love. That just goes to show that love will make do crazy things, whether good or bad.

I still say Steve shouldn't have gone steady with Myra if he couldn't get over his stupid crush on Laura. He should have just let Myra go in that episode. Then again, maybe part of the reason he didn't was because he was afraid Myra would murder Laura if he did.

We also know how the show ended, so Myra was right all along about seeing Laura as her rival. Of course, Myra maybe shouldn't have agreed to date Steve, when he was that open about "loving" another girl. But she hoped that Steve would change his mind and fall in love with her instead. And to be honest, it was clear that Steve was attracted to Myra. And you may call her "clingy" and "crazy" as much as you like, but at least she loved him for who he was!

Aside from her flaws of being jealous and everything, I actually liked Myra. She was sweet and smart and she was determined. Even Laura didn't have a problem with her when Myra wasn't being so clingy and mean to Laura. It was obvious that Steve was attracted to her. He just wasn't in love with her. I kind of feel bad for Myra. Steve chased Laura around and eventually she grew to love him. Myra chased Steve around and her love was never requited. But I think there's a chance that Steve might have grown to love her if she wasn't so possessive and clingy.

As for Laura, Laura did like Steve for who he was. Like I said earlier, you could make an argument that the only reason she didn't like him was because he was nerdy in the first two seasons. But she was only 13-14 years old during the time period. As Laura grew up, she began to like him for who he was once he grew up and toned himself down (by toning himself down, I mean being less destructive and possessive and clumsy and stalker-ish). Even in those middle seasons, while she wasn't romantically attracted to Steve she did view him as one of her best friends and became a lot nicer to him (though she was still a bit annoyed by him).

Of course, Laura was occasionally prone to acting like a jerk (i.e. "It Didn't Happen One Night" from season five) to him out of order. Ha-ha.

True, Laura did become a lot nicer towards Steve as the years went by. But still, I can't see how she was "the one" for him. Even after she accepted Steve as one of her friends, she still was a shallow person, who refused to give a chance romantically before he started changing himself. Myra might have had her flaws, but Steve had his flaws too, and she always was a better match for him in my opinion.

Well, Steve never drastically changed himself. He just ditched the suspenders in the final season, but he was still the same old nerdy guy we had gotten to know. I don't think Seasons 4-9 Laura was that shallow. I would say Laura wouldn't give him the time of day because he was nerdy. Just because she just wasn't attracted to him. She wasn't interested in the same things he was interested in and there was just no attraction to him. She was more interested in Stefan (who I never got the appeal of due to the fact that he didn't have much of a personality). While I don't see Steve with Laura or Myra, I will admit that he seemed better for Myra (again, when she wasn't acting like a psycho) than Laura. I'm a fan of Steve/Laura as a platonic relationship, they just don't seem right as a couple to me.
