Like Yellow Rose of Texas, Goodbye Old Paint, Streets of Laredo etc...?
I remember singing this one in 5th grade and getting in trouble for making up my own lyrics. http://www.whosdatedwho.com/tpx_2559...is/tpx_1211525 |

I would always hear this music being played on a piano in the saloon on Gunsmoke and thought it was an old cowboy song. I searched all over the internet for Gunsmoke music but could not find the name of the song. I then remembered another place I heard the tune, a 1970s toy commercial for " Tiny Mighty Mo " so I went to Youtube and not only did I find the commercial but found the title of the song from the comments section. Gunsmoke is supposed to be set in the 1870s but the info I got about the origin of this song says it came out about 1910. So I guess that's a Gunsmoke blooper. Anyway, the title is " Little Liza Jane "

Does "Should Have Been A Cowboy" from Toby Keith count? That song is now 21 years old.

Oh yeah, I love cowboy songs. I learned a lot in music class in elementary school. Our teacher would pass out these well-worn (fuzzy) folders that had lyric sheets inside. I miss singing in a large group sometimes. "Deep in the heart of Texas" is probably my favorite.
