Default Black sitcoms on major networks???

Are networks being chickens or something??? I know ABC has My Wife and Kids and Fox has Bernie Mac. But what's up with CBS and NBC??? Well...CBS hasn't really had anything since You Take the Kids with Nell Carter in 1990. And uh...the Royal Family in 1991. But NBC should be the first to have a current black sitcom. The Cosby Show was the biggest show of the 80's if not of all time. And Fresh Prince didn't do to shabby either. I don't know...it's just annoying trying to watch a black sitcom on UPN(except the Parkers) or the WB. They're cheaply done, have terrible writers, and sometimes terrible actors. My Wife and Kids is the perfect example of how a show with an all black cast can still be a hit. I don't know...

Also, I hope the George Lopez show will be a breakout hit, so that Latinos can have some limelight. Mostly Whites and Blacks have been in the limelight. It's time for more flava.....

I agree that there should be more diversity on television. Not only should there be more sitcoms featuring blacks, but also Asians and Hispanics as well.

Because all of these groups and others make up America.

I hate to say it but it seems that the 70s had less problems with people of color on the networks than now. Which is very ironic, because one would think that it would be the other way around.

Yup@Tiger.... So True. Like back in 1994, when Margaret Cho had her own sitcom with an all asian cast. I thought that was so tight, but then they took it off the air. I understand that the ratings may not have been there, but they didn't even give the show a chance. Seinfeld got 3 friggin years on the air before it started gaining viewers. I'm just hoping this George Lopez show will be a breakout hit.

LOL, so true!! Even though im white, I just LOVE black shows cuz they're just so great! Yes! It's time for a little more color! African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and anything else! lol Diversity brings so much more to a show!!!

This might not be a popular statement, but it's ridiculous to create a sitcom just because it has a minority in it. The show must be funny first and foremost. Should there be diversity? Yes. Should networks scramble to put on a black, hispanic or Asian sitcom just because it's available? No. I mean to be honest, why does it have to be a black sitcom? Or an hispanic sitcom? Why can't there just be sitcoms? Those UPN sitcoms do suck because they beat you over the head with race messages. The Cosby show did not. As long as a comedy is well written, I don't give a crap who's in it. And this is coming from a minority myself.

Black sitcom, Asian sitcom, Hispanic sitcom - so condecending. A true bold stroke would be to mix everyone together (not unlike real life) without a lot of obvious jibes, jokes and 'lift em' ups' - by that I mean cute little references to minorities and the ever tolerant attitude of the white folk that do them the honor of being friends with them. Surely it isn't too much to ask that a sitcom would include minorities without making an issue of it. Maybe there have been some, I don't know, but judging by this thread we're due for another one.
