I've been reading numerous recent articles about people who have been missing for years (and re-visiting their Charley Project case files). I've noticed that in a lot of the articles, family members of the missing people will often cite the rescue of Jaycee Dugard in 2009, and the rescue of Amanda Berry and Company in 2013 as being what has renewed their hope that their long missing loved one will someday return.
Needless to say, I hope all of the missing people don't/didn't have to go through what they had to endure (being held against their will, repeated rapes, etc). BUT...it is nice to see that their families still have hope after all these years. It's somewhat easy to think that with the passage of time, that most of the missing people will turn up dead or never be found, but I feel it is important for relatives and friends to still have hope. |

That's why I've always enjoyed the episodes of, say, Disappeared where they search for a missing person who is actually found as opposed to episodes where they find a body and it becomes about catching the perpetrator. The former gives much more hope to families of those of missing family members than the latter does.
You got to have some hope considering the circumstances. |
