what does everyone think of the final season? for me i did not like it one bit. steve no longer wearing suspenders laura falling head over heels for him within just a handful of episodes. richie living in the winslow household yet only appearing in 3 episodes. mother winslow only appearing in 1 episode a new harriette whos personality didnt match jo marie payton not even 1% and Eddie becomming a cop. I mean seriously Eddie seemed way too rebellious to want to be a police officer. I did however like commishiner Guiess. He was my favorite of all Carls bosses. what are everyone elses opinions on the 9th and final season?

Yeah, it sucked that Jo Marie Payton left the show midway in the last season. While I did not mind Steve getting a makeover (it was high time he grew up anyway) and Eddie becoming a cop, I do wish Steve finally got over Laura and married Myra instead.

Season 9 had its good moments but when Jo Marie Payton left the show it just wasn't the same. That was the pin in the balloon moment for me.

It was sad to see some of the changes that came in Season 9- mainly with Jo Marie Payton leaving the show and Judyann Elder taking over as Harriette. She did well in the role, but it wasn't quite the same. Still, I'm glad they didn't have Harriette dying or Carl and Harriette getting divorced to explain her absence. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air did a similar deal when the actresses playing the mothers got changed and it worked okay for that show.
I grew up watching Family Matters from the start of the show's run and watched it all the way through- I still enjoy Season 9 as much as any of the other seasons. As I've said before, regarding Steve and Laura, I'm glad to see that they got together because it's nice to see persistence (yes- I know it could also be called stalking and I realize it was not the best method- but this is a TV show after all)- it's nice to see persistence pay off and to see the nerd get the girl for once. (Jim Davis did a similar thing in recent years in the Garfield comic strip with Jon Arbuckle finally getting Liz as his girlfriend- after years of failed attempts.) So yeah- it's all good. I love the series all the way through. And I'd still prefer to watch any episode anyone considers the worst ever than most any other show on network TV today. |

I honestly dislike about everything that came of this season. By the end I was absolutely sick of characters getting dropped that I barely paid attention to it, then there was the whole finale.
Didn't like it. |

I stopped watching I think even before the move to CBS but from what I'm reading here the changes weren't too good, sure hope MTV2 gets a chance to run these episodes to see for myself.

I won't watch after season four, so season nine doesn't exist for me.

from what i remember there was never supposed to be a season 9. A pirates life for me was supposed to be the final episode and ABC was cancelling the show due to low ratings. it was rescued by CBS along with step by step and the shows were added to a cbs friday lineup called block party. 2 brand new shows were also added. Meego and another one i cant remember. after just a few months this lineup failed miserably and was pulled. family matters was put on hiatus and didnt return until late spring. airing its final episode in july. while a pirates life for me wouldnt have been a memorable season finale. the show would have been much better off ending then instead of dragging out that horrible 9th season.

I stopped watching around 1995/1996. All the shows on TGIF were pretty much over at that time.
But I think the Christmas episode was much more "Finale" material than Urkle going into space. It had all the cast together. That's where they should have ended it. |

To me, it was cool to finally see Steve and Laura get together, but I did feel bad for Myra even though she knew what she had gotten herself into by going with Steve at all. I like how Eddie grew up and decided to be like his dad, but I hated to see the original Harriette go.
