Default What do you do to keep Unsolved Mysteries alive?

It's been over 10 years since a great man known as Robert Stack died and since then, the great show he hosted for 15 years has all but faded away. The show's producers show no interest in keeping this nostalgic, mysterious, crime-solving show alive, so us fans have to stick together and keep the memories alive.

What is it you do to keep this fantastic show running? I myself run a great Facebook page of the show and share cases on there every day and try to share them on other sites that'll let me. I discuss it with people sometimes and I try to find episodes of the show to reflect on. Who knew such a show would have an everlasting effect on people around the world.

I visit here almost every day to see if there's any news on a UM case or if someone has new theories/ideas, etc. Plus the UM memes people make and other fun things here make the site interesting even beyond the show content.

When I had 2 TVs, I kept my UM dvds in the dvd player on the 2nd one and whenever I was working in that room (making the bed, folding laundry, dusting, etc) I turned on UM, so I still watched daily episodes of UM. Before the Big Purge, IYKWIM, I used to watch UM while I did other things online, like reading the news or playing a game.

I almost never go on facebook anymore, but I "like" the UM related pages like yours and Matt Birkbeck's Sharon Marshall info page.

I visit websleuths threads on the cases they have that were featured on UM. The posters there aren't all huge UM fans so there's not a lot of discussion like there is here, but I've seen info in the threads there on several UM cases that we didn't have here. If it's important to a case, I mention the info here and say where I found it. (I popped up Cindy Song's thread with WS info today.)

I visit the UM wikia site and browse around to remind myself about the details on different cases. (I almost never go to the official UM site anymore. Something went wrong with the search function a few months ago and I can't access much there because it always comes back with an error message.)

And since I have most of the people's names memorized, whenever I see a news story involving a person from UM, I bring the news story info/link here. (I popped up Stryder Starfyre's thread here a few days ago when I saw he'd been found.)

I buy as many books on UM cases and people connected to UM cases as I can (Lisa Marie Kimmell, Don Henry and Kevin Ives, Kaitlyn Arquette, Sharon Marshall, Amy Billig, and others) so I can learn more about a case than UM had the opportunity to cover.

I don't want UM to die. We've had a huge amount of cases solved in the past few years that had been featured on UM many years ago. I would love to see the day when we have answers to all the cases!

I personally tend to read up on cases, discuss them, and hope for the show to return somehow. It really is a shame that both this and AMW are off the air despite how helpful they could be to so many unsolved crimes.

Back in the 80s and most of the 90s we had Unsolved Mysteries and AMW on television without the internet. Internet became even more famous around 1996/1997 but not everyone had it then and they did not have famous UM websites for fans back then.

Despite no internet we fans had a connection with several other UM fans across the country. I remember in 1998 (I had no internet till late that year) I was at a bar while my car was being fixed next door in WA state. As an UM repeat show was on TV the bartender told me how she disliked those "family reunion/lost loved ones" segments. I agreed with her because those bored me, but a few were ok. Nonetheless I moved all the way over the country and ran into an UM fan! That was our connection back then - the actual tv show and its reruns.

Today with no UM show at all, except Farina reruns, we are still connected via this website, other websites, Facebook, and old youtube UM videos, despite most being removed. Thus, I believe Unsolved Mysteries lives on with the internet community because they can take away the UM tv show and all of the old youtube UM shows, but internet will always be free speech.

I see there are UM videos on youtube. A person has 4 disks of Bizarre murders on his page. Before they took down all those cool old UM episodes from Youtube a year ago we fans had a great amount of interaction and fun amongst each other because we could watch a very scary unsolved segment and then comment on it right afterwards.

As well as watching a lot of the cases, I read various sites. I'll often randomly google names associated with certain cases to see if there's anything new to be found.

For me, a little of the magic died with the 'new' episodes with Dennis Farina being made. Almost everything about it bugs me and I still find myself angrily skipping past it when it's shown on tv here in Ireland.

I don't do this to keep UM alive, but I thought I'd share it anyhow if anyone else does it already or would like to do it. I pray for the people featured on the show, especially the missing and their families and friends. I know occasionally it can be easy to forget this goes beyond a TV show we enjoy (it is for me, anyway), but these are real people with real pain. If you pray, keep them in mind!

I agree with your statement that the UM shows died when Farina did them. But I doubt he had much control over UM's past and its new show format. However when he died a part of UM died with him because he joined another famous host, Robert Stack, who also died. Now I know Stack was way better, but I truly appreciate Farina taking the time to do the re-runs.

I just wish Farina would have done new segments instead of always the old ones. Even though I do not know, I bet he had no control over whether new segments or only old ones could play.

I do get a big nostalgic when I see Farinas shows on a Saturday morning or a marathon on say Wednesday night on Lifetime. I just wish LT would announce their marathon a week in advance!

Do you remember when UM was going to come back and they said James Earl Jones (Darth Vader) was rumored to be host of new UM? That would be awesome with his creepy voice, unless its just reruns that it don't matter the voice of the host.

MegtheEgg,

We talked before I think briefly - I told you I was stationed at McChord AFB before. Your post (this response) - well I truly appreciate you saying that you pray for the people featured in the show. I want (and feel the need) to tell you that I actually saw God/Christ on 4-7-2009 after I prayed at night for all my sins. But despite this I still have done stupid things only after drinking, like having sex without a condom. there is no one I can tell this too so I thought about you after you said the word 'prayer' recently in your post. it is my goal to attend church for the first time in Superior, Wisconsin and confess my sins. I feel so dirty. Especially after He showed himself to me after I confessed to over 30 sins such as sleeping with hookers, being mean to others, or cussing in traffic.

how ironic that I explain this on an unsolved mysteries website, right? But I am honest to God. though I feel like a failure. I think I will be the laugh of the sitcomsonline website from now on. Hope I do not get kicked out.

Eric

I think we're all doing a great job of keeping UM alive by keeping this forum up and running as a great place to never forget the people profiled on UM.

Yes, I remember us talking about that. God loves you. Just don't do those things anymore.
