"How I Met Your Mother" Creators Respond to Racism Claims
by Katie Atkinson Jan 15, 2014 When Jason Segel’s character headed to Shanghai in Monday’s "How I Met Your Mother" episode, he encountered some familiar faces — well, almost familiar: Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders, and Josh Radnor were all dressed up to look like they were Asian. Viewers took to Twitter to slam the show for putting white actors in “yellowface,” even starting the hashtag #HowIMetYourRacism. Co-creator Carter Bays responded to those racism claims Wednesday, tweeting that he and fellow showrunner Craig Thomas were “deeply sorry” for the offensive nature of the episode. "Hey guys, sorry this took so long. @himymcraig and I want to say a few words about #HowIMetYourRacism. With Monday's episode, we set out to make a silly and unabashedly immature homage to Kung Fu movies, a genre we’ve always loved. But along the way we offended people. We're deeply sorry, and we’re grateful to everyone who spoke up to make us aware of it. We try to make a show that's universal, that anyone can watch and enjoy. We fell short of that this week, and feel terrible about it. To everyone we offended, I hope we can regain your friendship, and end this series on a note of goodwill. Thanks. @CarterBays @HimymCraig" http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/01/15/ho...cism-response/ |

The viewers who complained are all pro-PC degenerates. Nothing more.

Yeah for reals, I don't even watch the show but all these PC people just ruin the humor out of anything they deem innapropriate or racist.

![]() ![]() They knew what they were presenting would offend large segments of the Asian community, but quite frankly and honestly, they simply didn't care. Please don't expect us to believe that NO ONE in that large cast or crew raised any objection to the nature of this abomination of an episode. I'm sure they did, and their ignored pleas were met with, "Ahh...it's funny. Lighten Up! This is a sitcom. Besides, we can ALWAYS apologize for it later." Pathetic excuse for a script. |

^^Dude, HIMYM is already in "final season" status. Two and a half months and it'll be gone from new episodes.
About the racism claims: In this era of cultural and ethnic diversity, every TV comedy series has to get themselves bashed for racism...
