I don't have the DVD's yet. But, I've borrowed them before. And, I've also noticed...I don't know if this is like this on all the prints of the DVD's. But, why do they never use Betty White's second opening shot? The one from seasons 5-7? Anyone else have a copy like that?

Betty White's second opening shot? Rue's and Estelle's were the only ones that changed, no?

For the most part, the DVD releases are unedited. (a few exceptions are out there: Season 5's Like the Beep Beep Beep of the Tom-Tom may be an edit)

The original opening credits are all in tact.

Throughout the run of the series, Bea Arthur and Betty White's opening credit scene never changed. Bea's was from the Pilot and Betty's was from Season 1's Job Hunting.

Rue's changed three times, her three shots were from the Pilot, Season 2's Take Him, He's Mine and Season 4's Sophia's Choice.

Estelle's changed twice from Season 1's Break-In and Season 4's Fiddler on the Ropes or High Anxeity?? (could be wrong on her second one)

Perhaps you are thinking of an edited opening credit sequence that is available out on youtube. I have seen one where Betty is in the kitchen cooking. This was fan-made.

I remember seeing that shot of Betty (cooking in the kitchen), also, once. According to the you tube post, this is the original opening for seasons 5-7. I also think that's a different shot of Estelle.

And as far as the extra-long opening credits, were they only used in syndication? I don't remember seeing this on the dvd's.

This is fan-made and may be what you are referring to. Whoever made this changed the font and also changed Estelle's scene:
