Default Who Misses The Variety On Cable Stations?

I sure do. Recently, on Nick At Nite, there has been 3 hours of Full House. Full House also airs on TBS. On A&E, all they seem to air is Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars. Seinfeld and Friends seem to air on every station known to mankind. That '70s Show airs 2 hours a day on ABC Family and has aired on every station known to mankind for the last several years.

There are a lot of shows that seem to get stuck in a vault and never see the light of day. A lot of these shows I have not seen in YEARS. Those shows IMO that are stuck in a vault are The Hogan Family, Blossom, The Love Boat, Bionic Woman, Laverne And Shirley, California Dreams, USA High, Malibu CA, L.A. Law, Head Of The Class, Gimme A Break, The Wild Wild West, Melrose Place, and Hazel. What are some shows you have not seen in a very long time?

Trapper John, M.D., for one (FX used to have it). They also used to have Hart to Hart (I've seen the first two seasons worth from the DVD releases, and that's it).

I certainly miss it! Back in the day you could always find something to watch is what I've heard from people, and now we have virtually nothing interesting to pick from!

The sad fact of the matter is it's a lot cheaper for stations to air marathons of one show than to air 100 different shows as long as the numbers are still good enough for advertisers.

Thanks to my DVD player, "Hazel" can air anytime I want her to! But I do wish more common networks aired a wide variety of the classics instead of just picking a select few and running them into the ground.

I don't miss the ;lack of variety on Cable (Or OTA) TV. I threw my hands up a little over seven years ago. My DVD Collection covers the entire spectrum of what's being, or was once was shown on TV. No such thing as "Lack of Variety" at my house.

METV is showing the old programs I used to watch as a kid, but now I don't want to see them. I am depraved enough to watch Extreme Couponing marathons, even though I know the show was exposed as being fake.

I'm with Regulus, as soon as my absolute favorites were available on DVD, I bought them up. Only a small select few of my favorites are not on TV.

Now I just watch for the news, and live sports.

I don't watch the news, too depressing, and WAY too much politics.

I know! That's awesome! (Of course, I LOVE Full House, so I'm definitely cool with marathons on that show.)
But I certainly wouldn't mind other shows moved around to make room for some other classics that haven't been on the air in a long time.

I've said this before but it seems like there was a lot more variety on stations back in the old days. I dont know what can be done about it.

I remember USA Network having pro wrestling, boxing, cartoons, game shows back in the mid-80s. Wish it was like that again.

I Do because during the 1980s & the 1990s; USA Network, ESPN, BET, Univision, Discovery Channel, TNN, MTV, TBS, TNT, HBO, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, A&E, E!**, GSN*, CBN/Family Channel, TLC & Lifetime have more variety.

*= debuted in 1994
**= started as MovieTime in 1987

Sad From eight to 28

When Cable TV came to my town in 1980 one of the things I looked forward to was more variety. The number of channels one could watch went from eight to twenty eight (This included the three "Movie Channels (That's HBO, Showtime and The Movie Channel for those of you in Rio Linda!). 25 years later and the variety was gone. When they started doing marathons I thought it was "cute", if your favorite show was being "marathoned" you could knock yourself out (You still had to wade through all the commercials), unfortunately if a show wasn't your cup of tea too bad, as the show that was on was your only choice for the day. Today I could "marathon" a show on DVD if it's in my library, but I like variety, so I simply don't do it. I guess I'm a little "Old Fashioned", but I wear this like a badge!

The Hogan Family, Head of the Class, Gimme a Break and Hazel are on Antenna TV. Blossom used to air on The Hub and Discovery Family, but no more. Laverne and Shirley airs on Logo, albeit heavily butchered for more commercials. Bionic Woman is on Cozi TV. The Love Boat airs on Me-TV.
