What is your take? My only issue is how could Paul Flores dispose of the body without anyone eye witness account.

Someone would have seen him lugging around a "bag," "large object," etc. Wouldn't you think?

I still have a nagging doubt about a certain other murderer she and Flores went to Cal Poly with…
It's quite a coincidence. |

I believe Flores is responsible. He was the last one seen with her and she was so intoxicated she had to lean on him to move. Her scent was traced to his room, on his bed, and only in his room. He had strange cuts and abrasions immediately following her disappearance. Flores was known to be a peeping tom and articles I've read say he even climbed the balconies of coeds he was following (and called them repeatedly just to hear them speak). Paul was also hitting on girls right in front of their boyfriends and even on one of the last friends of Kristin to see her before "escorting her to her dorm." He reeks of an utter pervert.
Here's an interesting article that goes into a ton of detail about Flores and the night Kristin vanished. http://californiaregister.com/kristin-smart/ |

This case has always intrigued me on a number of different levels... from the botch-filled investigation to the way everything 'seemed' to fall into place for Flores (i.e. the end of semester dorm cleaning, the lost earring, the timing of the Sheriff's remarks during plea deal negotiations) .
In my opinion the case starts and ends with PF. He probably had some help (father?) in concealing her body and a lack of eye witnesses would have certainly been possible given the fact it was a long weekend, early morning hours, and PF's room was close to a side exit. My guess is that her body was transported to the Flores' rental home which would explain why the earring was found in the driveway. But as for where her final resting place is, only PF knows for sure. |

Well I highly doubt that every single college student in the area was asleep. I've worked 3rd shift most of my adult life and I think people would be surprised at how many people are up virtually all hours of the night. Just a combination of night owls, early risers, and people that just don't get any sleep (partially because they feel they don't *need* any sleep, which is very inaccurate). I think college students in particular would be prone to being up at night (studying, partying). I don't know if anyone else saw Kristin's murder, but perhaps they heard something, or saw something and didn't realize the significance of it.

A friend of Paul's mother claims that she said Paul's father got a phone call and shot out of bed in the middle of the night. If this is true, it may very well be that he was responding to his son's call for help. Not that this makes him guilty, but I have only a negative impression of Paul's father from articles I've read. Kristin's mother said that he walked in on her sobbing and he just smiled and laughed. And not in the "oops, I'm uncomfortable" way but in the "I'm getting pleasure watching you cry" way. He even allegedly told a witness "that bitch deserved to die" of Kristin. And the way that the family scares people off from their backyard (with fresh concrete) even if no one is anywhere near it causes me to have more than a hinky feeling about the family. |

I think Flores did it and there's not enough evidence to charge and convict him of it. Just my opinion.

Personally, I think the evidence is there.
What about the Flores summer home yard, freshly paved cement. How convenient? |

I think if they dug up that yard, it's possible the mystery would be solved. They would need evidence to get a warrant, however.
Another critical piece of evidence, now lost, is the earring found on the Flores' property. It was one of the earrings she had worn the night of her disappearance. I believe it was found on their driveway/front yard, but the above link I posted is now not working. The SLO PD apparently lost it. I think it lends credence to the theory that she is buried in the backyard. While carrying her, the earring may have slipped off. In the hurry to get her inside, it may have escaped their notice. |

Agreed, Finnegan. I think the answer is with Flores and his family.
There's a documentary on this case on the show Vanished with Beth Holloway as a host if anyone is interested. It's up on the forbidden site. |
