The Hechts

Much to my disappointment, I see there is more Hecht-bashing going on. Seriously, what is it about these people that got most people on here so upset? No seriously. No really. I want to know. If any of them said a single, solitary thing that was rude, offensive, inappropriate or snobbish, I want to know. Post it here.

I've never understood the hateful comments against Adam Hecht's family. Words such as "snobby" and "arrogant" get thrown at them a lot, even against the sister, who only had one thing to say, IIRC.

Here are my thoughts:

Adam's sister: All she says is that Adam was starting to change a lot. No bones about it, no mention of her not liking him helping people out, nothing. I don't see how anyone can say she seemed arrogant or snobby in her interview, and it really boggles my mind. All she did was note a change in his personality when he started hanging around with Tony.

Adan's brother: I know his voice dramatically lowers during his interview at times and people find his interview "weird," but I didn't. He found it surprising that Adam was talking to a homeless man on the streets because it was out of the ordinary for him to do that. I can tell you as a former resident of Los Angeles that people typically ignore panhandlers and homeless people. If you stopped to talk and listen to each and every one, you'd have used your whole day up. I imagine it's the same in most cities. You can't help everyone and many are sadly not going to put the money they're requesting to any practical purposes. People know that. So naturally, what's wrong with Harold Hecht being surprised, especially given the fact that Adam just walked out and approached Tony directly rather than vice-versa? Harold never said anything disparaging or bad about talking to homeless people or helping them out. He really only seemed concerned about Adam and surprised by what he was doing.

Adam's mother: She's the one people seem to talk about the most. They even claim that she has a "fake accent." I'm pretty sure she's actually from England and the accent isn't an affectation (sad people are looking into it that much in an attempt to bash her). Yes, they're a wealthy family, but I don't understand the bad rep. She was concerned about her son. He wasn't just helping a homeless man, he was helping a man who appeared to be mentally unstable, and was even allowing him to live in his apartment with him. That's terribly concerning, especially given the fact that Adam injured himself severely during one of Tony's "rituals." And wouldn't it be terrifying if, after all of this, you couldn't find your son and this very strange man tried to embrace you and say that he was your son instead?

I think a lot of the Hecht-bashers automatically assume that because the Hechts are a wealthy family, they were against any charity or what Adam was trying to do. I didn't see them that way at all. They were concerned about his well-being, seeing as he was living with an unbalanced man, traveling into extremely dangerous areas, and even taking part in dangerous rituals. There's a big difference between helping the needy and going as far as Adam did. I would have to watch the segment again to see if there's anything I missed, but I really can't fathom the Hecht bashing either.
