Could Family Matters have made it to 300 episodes - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is like the second most longest running African American Sitcom next to The Jeffersons which had close to 300 if stayed on another 2 years the third is The Cosby Show which had 200 episodes, but still 215 episodes is more then enough to keep people entertained for the rest of their lives wow this is like a world record for a family show to have that many episodes lol, do you think Family Matters could have reached 300 episodes if stayed on another 4 or 5 years ???

I think so. Here are the following black sitcoms that are the longest running.

The Jeffersons-11 seasons
Family Matters-9 seasons
The Cosby Show-8 seasons

How in the world was The Jeffersons able to reach nearly 300 episodes it was racist and controversy lol, Family Matters could have beat The Jeffersons record if it was on the air another 2 years, a Spin-Off about the married life of Steve and Laura and their kids could work in my theory it dont have to be the original people to be in the spin-off they can find people that look exacly like them in this world to be in the Family Matters spin-off lol.

That would be a good idea. I think that Family Matters should've taken the first spot as the longest running black sitcom, and The Jeffersons take the second spot. That will make a lot of sense. I never liked The Jeffersons anyway.

I always looked at Family Matters as The Cosby Show meets Good Times.

It's based in Chicago just like Good Times but middle class like The Cosby Show.

Family Matters and Good Times both had the matriarchs of the shows that came from spin-offs. Harriette Winslow came from Perfect Strangers. Florida Evans came from Maude.

Family Matters had the humor of Good Times and the polishness of The Cosby Show.

Carl Winslow was Cliff Huxtable meets James Evans. He has the softness of Cliff but the toughness of James. Unlike Cliff, Carl Winslow and James Evans were both male chauvinists.

Harriette Winslow was Claire Huxtable meets Florida Evans. She's sassy like Claire but soft and supportive like Florida.

Eddie Winslow and Steve Urkel were both JJ Evans. Let me explain. Eddie has the personality of JJ as far as suaveness, chasing girls and getting bad grades, and Steve Urkel has the popularity of JJ since Steve was the breakout character of the show just like JJ Evans. It's funny how Jimmie Walker and Jaleel White both have the same initials, JW. How eerie.

Laura Winslow (season 3-9) was the Thelma Evans of the show: sassy, beautiful, curvy, good grades, popular, and dating random boyfriends, but unlike Thelma, instead of them proposing to Laura, they want to have sex with her instead. The only two guys that propose to Laura were Steve and Stephan.

Judy Winslow was female Michael Evans meets Rudy Huxtable.

Aunt Rachel was Willona Woods. They both look (Willona is two shades darker) and act just alike and they both date men frequently. I though they were sisters.

Family Matters tried to be like that 70's sitcom Good Times but it was set 2 decades later in the 1990's era i was entertained by the show in season 1 people keep saying Steve Urkel made the show better thats not true i watched season 1 more than i watched season 2 or 3, Season 1 was about family then Steve Urkel comes along he's not family just an annoying next door kid, now i do enjoy all the episode with Steve Urkel but i am looking for realistic storyline plots not just pure brainless unrealistic entertainment come on a Time Machine.

I am sure Bill Cosby was mad as hell when he found out that Family Matters passed his show The Cosby Show it only had 200 episodes Family Matters had a few more episodes 215 lol, Family Matters seemed like a real life Simpsons by seasons 8 and 9 lol.

JJ Evans and Steve Urkel both had their own doll, and their own cereal. I always thought that Steve Urkel was the 90s' JJ Evans except Steve had a very very high IQ, and he made straight As unlike JJ Evans. Family Matters was the 1990s middle class Good Times in my opinion.

JJ Evans was a product from his community he was born in Chicago and grew up in the inner city and went to a poor Public School so he was not given a chance to have a High IQ like kids who are born in the suburbs, JJ was smart he was a good painter but he did not spend anytime studying like crazy to get A's in school like his sister and little brother, Steve Urkel even tho he grew up in chicago he was born in the suburbs of chicago and his parents were smart and had high IQ, JJ was a king of the 70's, Arnold from Diff'rent Stokes was the king of the 80's, Steve Urkel was the king of pop of the 90's for my generation.

Family Matters was lucky to had made it past Season 6 (the show was running on fumes by that point).

SitcomsOffline you are right but people did not care if the plot was stupid and immature all the kids and teenagers and young adults in their 20's wanted to see was Steve Urkel act a fool now people are saying this show is racist because the producers made Steve Urkel a smart black kid but a clumsy nerd, i guess the producers of Family Matters are saying if black guys are smart they have to be clumsy and have no social life wow lol.

Family Matters should have been off the air since after season 2 because in seasons 3-9 it became a Science Fiction show for school teachers how was Steve Urkel able to keep this secret of him being a scientist from Laura all those years muhahahahaha lol.
