Default Christmas episode segments already colorized?

Weren't the Christmas show segments that are airing as part of the colorized I Love Lucys on Dec. 20th already colorized years ago?

Are they redoing the colorization for that episode?

Thanks!

I know that CBS aired a colorized version of the Christmas show shortly after Lucy died. I remember watching it.

The Christmas special aired for the 1st time in 12/18/89 in B&W. The Christmas segments were colorized & the special re-aired 1 year later 12/10/90. I believe I read that the special that aired 12/20/2013 was a newly remastered print & recolorized. 23 years later = better technology. Look forward to it on DVD.

I have yet to watch the special. But I did see it briefly on TV and it seemed to be the older colorization. However, in seeing the preview for the episodes, I could see the difference between the two too. The grape stomping episode looked like a newer colorization than the Christmas one. I could be wrong though.

I have to agree. The Christmas episode looked cleaned, but the colorization looked like it did 20 years ago.

The Christmas Episode looks much better with the updated high definition colorization process, however the Grape stomping episode looked faded, washed out and horrible. Message to the powers that be at CBS/Paramount, put the show out on Bluray with the high definition colorization process exactly the same way it looks on the Christmas Special! Not many fans are going to shell out $100.00 for the Blurays if its still B&W! Whoever made that decision to skip the colorized option for each episode is a moron! Most people on Facebook said they would like the series colorized! Take note CBS/Paramount....

Well I can tell you for a fact the special that aired two days ago has been newly re-colorized and looks great.

I own season six of the I Love Lucy dvd and on that release, they have the older colorized (1990) version of the Christmas show and it looks not nearly as good as this new version (it's in the special features section of the dvd). They also have the B&W in the regular lineup on the dvd. The colors on the old version are not true to life and look pale and washed out.

The colors in this new version are much more vibrant, realistic and true-to-life.

I agree MichaelKeith, the Christmas episode really looks incredible with the updated HD colonization process! They should have done the same thing with Lucy's Italian Movie and the Scotland episode and CBS/Paramount should take note and colorize the entire series for all the fans because they would really make money! But again colorize it right like the Christmas episode and no faded colorized look!

You are so correct. Here's a comparison of the 1990 version with the new version. The new one is world's better. Also for comparison, an actual old color photo from the set (Lucy posing as Marilyn Monroe).
