Has anyone here purchased the new "Jeannie" Complete series box set? I saw it at Target for like $29.00 plus tax. I never purchased the series, so I was thinking of getting it this way. I hear that the packaging is kind of flimsey, but what do you expect for the price.

Buy the individual sets. With the complete set the DVDs are stacked on top of each other.

The set with the bottle shape is very flimsy, accordian style and it falls apart easily according to reviews on Amazon, get the Box set instead. I just bought the complete 5 seasons in a package set and it is very nice, but the plastic boxes are a bit flimsy, but far better than the paper bottle set.(which shows a big bottle on the cover art). Hey, if anyone is interested in helping me, I'm trying to get a petition going for the 3rd Jeannie movie(sorry if I'm spamming a bit) if anyone wants to help.

I would buy the individual sets. The complete set has no exclusive bonus disc and, as already mentioned, it's so cheaply done. It's just the discs stacked on top of each other, asking to get scratched. Remember, DVDs don't have the scratch-resistant coating of a Blu-ray disc. Most of these new complete series sets are classic examples of form over function and a way for studios to repackage and sell off remaining stock, not caring at all that you end up with scratched discs.
The individual sets are cheap enough. A few weeks ago, I picked up Seasons 2 and 3 at Target for $9.99 and $10.99, respectively. I got the other sets for just under $17 each at Barnes and Noble at the same time. Amazon sells most of the seasons for under $20. I only need the Black & White version of Season 1 and that's under $22 at Amazon. |

What Bonus Disc are talking about that comes with the other set? I didn't think there was anything but just the series out there.

There's no bonus disc in any set. What I meant by my statement was that the Complete Series set(s) don't include an exclusive bonus disc--which can often be an incentive to buy them over individual releases. In this case, there is no exclusive bonus disc, so that's one more reason to go with the individual releases. That is, unless you want to take your chances on the complete set? If you do, remember that it's literally two stacks of discs, just asking to get scratched. In addition, having to pull off 16 discs to get at #17 seems like a poor design. |

all you have to do is put the Discs in individual paper sleeves.

Well, I know you get what you pay for, but it's better than paying for the individual DVDS if you don't already have the series, plus the episodes on Antenna TV are so chopped up.

You could always buy (5) 4-disc Amarays cheap from Casetopia or elsewhere, download the proper cover art, and go from there. That would save $$, offer disc protection, and look good at the same time. |

I got the complete series set for $23.99 at Amazon and think the packaging is fine. There's no problem with stacking the discs on top of each other. I've seen sets with tight cardboard slots for each disc that were much worse. To get complete series of five seasons or more for $25 or $30 is a great trend. You can also often get a zippered 24 disc CD/DVD case at the Dollar Store if you want. I wish more series were this much of a bargain.

I bought my mother the complete series of Bewitched for Christmas. It has stacked discs and 13 of them were scratched all to hell, with many others having light scratches. After two exchanges, I gave up. What happens for one person may not apply to others. That's why they should stick to each disc having its own hub. I'd rather pay more for quality then get them cheap with disc-damaging packaging. Those zippered cases scratch DVDs as well. I do agree with you on cardboard slots being horrible though. |
