No, not really. But when she sings, it does.- That reminds me, those Shirley Temple commercials are annoying, as well.

I don't mind her... except when she was three. She was scary!

Cool

I think she was a better child star than some of the child stars of today. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, anyone? IMHO, they're scary!!!

Didn't Shirley Temple die a few years back?

Not that I know of. In 2001 she appeared in the show Walt: The Man Behind the Myth presenting Academy Award to Disney.

And there you are,
Happy landing on a chocolate bar.
See the sugar bowl do a tootsie roll
With the big bad devil's food cake;
If you eat too much, ooh! ooh!
You'll awake with a "tummy-ache!"
On the good ship Lollipop,
It's a night trip, into bed you hop.

OMG! Shirley Temple is most certainly ALIVE AND WELL! She's living in California with her husband of over 40 years, Charles Black.

Since her early career at Fox Studios she grew up and had quite a success as a teenage actress and later politician. She almost got the role of Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ, but lost out to Judy Garland who could sing much better.

Since her most famous roles, (HEIDI, A LITTLE PRINCESS, etc) she signed with Selznick Studios and was so beautiful as a teenager. She was in SINCE YOU WENT AWAY, HONEYMOON, and I'LL BE SEEING YOU to name a few.

As an adult she ran for senate and instead became an ambassador, I believe to Ghana. A very accomplished woman, with a past that should impress just about anyone. I'm sorry, I've read her autobiographies and won't stand for anyone to rip on her.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't ripping on her or anything. I just thought she had passed away a few years ago. She was pretty cute as a kid.

Sorry to say but the only reason Garland got it over her was because Fox wouldn't let her out of her contract to do the movie. Otherwise Shirley Temple would have been the one to sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and who knows what could have happened from there.

(I was forced to watch both the Shirley Temple Story and Judy Garland's, thats how I remember this so well.)

Otherwise, all your info is correct!

I didn't want to go too much into it, but Judy Garland was the original choice for the role of Dorothy. Then they decided Temple was the bigger star, so they auditioned her. But Temple's singing wasn't up to Judy's, and she couldn't get out of her contract. So the original choice, (and my favorite actress of all time) Judy Garland, got the part!

So we're both right.

I never really cared for her movies. It's not that I don't like her, it's just her movies were so boring and they made me fall asleep.

Yeah, the ones when she was really little can get boring - she was only SO cute... You should see some of the films she made when she was older though. BACHELOR AND THE BOBBYSOXER with Cary Grant is hilarious! Just an idea.
