It's not illegal, nor should it be. It's part of the requirements for Steve's PE class. And PE is a mandatory class in high school for graduation requirements. If you can't pass the class, you can't graduate- that should be motivation enough to get through it.

But steve was like an adult he was atleast 17-18 years old thats something you learn when your 8 years old, the Gym teacher should have took his time with Steve to teach him how to swim, it's funny how steve could not learn how to swim until laura jumped into the pool lol.

Yeah, it seems like almost anything Steve is inspired to do, it is because of Laura. That kind of parallels a Futurama episode though, in which a character said, "All of civilization is built on the attempt to impress the opposite sex." LOL

Steve might have been able to swim when he was a little kid but maybe it was blocked out of his mind when he became addicted to science inventions when he was a teenager, the only reason he drove a car was because to try get win over laura to be his girlfriend lol.

I guess you could say, in a weird way, Laura DID deserve Steve's love if she inspired him to bring out the best in himself.

Yeah we find out that Laura had feelings for Steve Urkel if she was willing to drown in a huge pool to get Steve to save her life.

I didn't say she did those things because she loved Steve in a romantic sense, but she was still a good friend to him at the time, and friends help each other out like that.

One has to wonder though, what if Myra tried to drown herself in the huge pool, would Steve have been inspired to learn how to swim to save her life? I would say he would, but you never know...

I have to agree with with Neutronman about this one. Steve was like the smartest guy in the school, and he wouldn't be able to graduate unless he learned how to swim! What kind of bull**** is that? I never learned how to swim because I have two different disorders, which will make things like that near impossible for me, and I really find that episode offensive. Because everybody can't learn how to swim, despite what some ignorant people seem to think, and your gym class grade shouldn't be that important. Nothing you learn there will be important once you get to College anyway (unless you get there on a sports scholarship and join some team). And really, what about the handicapped people, who have to sit in a wheel chair? Aren't they allowed to go to College either, just because they can't swim? Nah, I really hate that episode with every fibre of my being. It was simply offensive and ignorant beyond belief. And yeah, don't get me started on how Steve suddenly learned to swim, when he thought Laura was drowning! What a complete piece of crap that episode was...

Yeah Steve would save Myra Monhouse his creepy girlfriend from drowning he would not let someone lose their life if he was able to save them, remember the episode The Unlikely Match the dark skinned boy from moesha guest starred in this episode as a bully that was a bad guy that put his head in the boys bathroom everyday because steve was a nerd and unpopular in high school thats wrong poor kid could not help the way he dressed lol he saved his life by finding a cure to save his life, he also saved Carl Winslow from death in season 5 by doing some kind of CPR on him, Steve Urkel had a good heart he was not like others he would help people weather they like him or hate him rather it ment risking his own life to save other lives he proves this in the last episode Lost in Space part 2 where he risked his life to save billions of people's lives on earth.

Well, I haven't even tried to learn how to swim since I was twelve years old. But I get along fine in life without it, and I even quit going to regular Gym class in 6th grade and never looked back. I guess the American system says you have to pass every subject to graduate, but a lot of people would have problems with Gym class and should meet some clemency. And yeah, I also hate how the teacher did nothing to help Steve. Thanks goodness Carl was able and willing to do it instead.

I think if Steve had a medical condition they would have excused him from gym, but he didn't have any that we know of.

Steve probably had Asperger's like me, even if they never said so. But really, he had probably never skipped Gym class and always tried to do his best. That should be enough for him to get a passing grade, even if he hadn't been able to learn how to swim. He even got a passing grade in Home Economics, despite destroying the class room, since he still had done his best. Isn't it also weird that if that was so damn important to know how to swim to pass Gym class, why had Steve passed Gym class every year until then? And why did the teacher not offer him any help to pass? Neutroman67 also has a point that Steve could have taken that to the princinpal.

Yeah and the Gym coach is not a king he cant fail students if they have a disability to learn faster than others and the Gym coach knew Steve Urkel had enough problems in his life he was also rude by humiliating Steve Urkel by saying out loud you cant swim i feel like the guy said that on purpose to make Steve feel bad now he has to be made fun of by his peer yikes, and i also dont like the way he put his hands on Steve in the pool thats awkward since Steve is a grown man lol, Steve Urkel never struck me as if he had Asperger's he seemed outgoing and confident he's the only guy that brave enough not to give up after getting rejected but then again he did not have many friends i dont count Eddie, i do think that Waldo and Judy had Asperger's they were always so quiet, Waldo might of had anxiety if you watch him in episodes he makes useless one liners and seems to be left out when Eddie Steve and Weasel are coming up with crazy ideas lol.

Furienna it must be hard dealing with that Asperger's the kid that played Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle has Asperger's i wondered why he barely spoke on the show lol, Furienna since you have Asperger's are you a quiet person ???
