Candace Cameron Bure Opens Up about her Struggles with Bulimia
by Hallie Stephens December 12, 2013 Candace Cameron Bure won America's heart as a child star on the hit family sitcom "Full House". And while she managed to avoid the pitfalls of early fame, she did suffer from bulimia well after her days on the show had ended. "Omg! Insider" co-anchor Thea Andrews sat down with the 37-year-old to talk about her new book, Balancing It All, but Candace also spoke candidly about her eating disorder, which she says didn't begin until after she married her husband, Valeri Bure, and moved to Montreal for his career as a professional hockey player. At the time, she admitted she was struggling to find balance as an actress and a new wife and turned to food for comfort. She told Thea, "Clearly it wasn't a healthy way to deal with things. That's really when my faith was kicked up a notch, and I sought comfort in my relationship with God and not with food." Candace credits her parents and the producers of "Full House" with shielding her from the body-image pressures during her time playing D.J. Tanner. "I think I was very protected by my parents and the producers. They all had a sensitivity about it," she explained. "Even the one episode of 'Full House' where D.J. goes on a crash diet for a few days … they asked me would I feel comfortable doing an episode about that."
